Valentine’s Events This Weekend In Ocean County!

Love is in the air! However, you may not be able to smell it with all the wing sauce, chili fumes, and stale beer floating around with the Big Game…

Australian Flower Industry Prepares For Valentine's Day

SYDNEY, AUSTRALIA – FEBRUARY 12: Roses are seen on display at the Bagala Bros flower stand at Sydney Markets ahead of Valentine’s Day on February 12, 2022 in Sydney, Australia. With Australians predicted to spend an average of $111 on Valentine’s gifts this year according to research from the Australia Retailers Association, and roses on the top of the gift list, the Australian flower industry is preparing for a busy weekend. Michael Bagala of Bagala Bros flower company said, “As soon as Covid-19 hit our sales dropped dramatically, easily 60% down. And then after that, once people started to realise this wasn’t just going to be a two-week lockdown, it was going to be months upon months of lockdowns – they were at home and one of the few ways of contacting loved ones was by sending flowers. That was the really nice thing about our industry, we were still able to operate and people were able to send beautiful flowers when obviously we couldn’t see each other in person. We were just grateful we were still able to work.” Established for over 40 years, Bagala Bros is a second-generation flower farming company, wholesaler and importer, with a rose farm situated in New South Wales’s Horsley Park. Growing a variety of roses all year round in a production facility using hydroponics technology they’re working around the clock in preparation for this year’s Valentine’s Day celebrations. With all that love in the air, comes Valentine's Day Weekend events for you and your special someone to attend and experience together right here in Ocean County! From weekend getaways to special Valentine's themed restaurant menus, to couples craft events, it's all about the love this weekend. Oh, and chocolate, don't forget the chocolate!

Saint Valentine's Day is Tuesday February 14th, and while some might wait until the big Presidents Day three day weekend to celebrate, many local Ocean County businesses are choosing to get a jump on the festivities early. Our friends at Ocean County Tourism have a full list of events at their website https://oceancountytourism.com/events/ .

For now, we have cherry picked a few of the ones that stand out to us as the best from them, and found some others as well. From family friendly fun like character appearances at local establishments and Daddy Daughter dances, to adult fun, like a chocolate and wine trail excursion and heart shaped basket weaving.

By the way, did you know there really was a Saint Valentine?  According to Wikipedia, there were actually two! The first, Valentine of Rome, was a priest in Rome who was added to the Calendar Of Saints by the Pope in the year 496. The other was Valentine of Terni, who was a Bishop in central Italy.

The custom of giving cards and chocolate however, began in the United Kingdom and was connected not only with love, but the coming of Spring. Keep that in mind while you and your special someone perhaps take part in some of these fun events for Valentine's Weekend right here in Ocean County!

Best Rat Rock Bands: STP, VH, ZEP, PEARL JAM, FOOS, PEPPERS,AC/DC Favorite New Bands: Glorious Sons, Rival Sons, Dirty Honey Most Embarrassing Moment: the moment my mother reads this shit! Best Day: I know a lot of folks say this, but it’s true: the day my little girl Jynell and my boy Big D were born! Next to that, it would have to be the day I was baked on earth day in Central Park and met Keefer Sutherland…baked too, I believe.
