Jimmy Steal’s Top 5 Thanksgiving Movies!

It’s not easy being Thanksgiving. Wedged in between Jack-O-Lanterns and Elves. After the candy corn, but before the candy canes. That’s what makes Thanksgiving so strong. It’s all…

Fire Department Demonstrates The Dangers Of Deep-Frying Turkeys

SAN LEANDRO, CA – NOVEMBER 26: A television camerman films a 13 pound turkey that will be placed into a pot of boiling oil during a safety demonstration November 26, 2003 in San Leandro, California. Serious home fires and fatalities have been linked to deep-frying turkeys in homes on stivetops.      It's not easy being Thanksgiving. Wedged in between Jack-O-Lanterns and Elves. After the candy corn, but before the candy canes.

That's what makes Thanksgiving so strong. It's all American, and it's all about family, and well, Turkey. Admittedly, there aren't a lot of Thanksgiving Movies, and even less great Thanksgiving Movies. I think this list I have come up with is as solid as aunt Bertha's stuffing, which now you only have to wait a few more weeks for!

I have seen all of these movies at least once, and most of them multiple times. All five are set on or around Turkey Day, and that's important because I didn't want to stretch it too much. The theme of the Thanksgiving holiday had to be somewhere in the film. Reuniting with family, or trying to. Fighting with the family, or not trying to. Or, just the pain of being alone on the holiday meant for being with friends and family.

All five of these movies had some decent level of success, while a couple are considered legendary. There are Oscar winning actors and directors, a movie made out of a famous protest song, even a movie with a real life down and out Hollywood star just before his big recovery and comeback. Of course one of the films starts two of the most beloved stars in Hollywood history! So lets get to it. My Top Five Thanksgiving Movies of all time! Pass the gravy and save room for dessert pal!

Planes Trains And Automobiles 1987

The gold standard for Thanksgiving movies. Candy and Martin at their finest. "THOSE AREN'T PILLOWS!"

Scent Of A Woman 1992

The movie that won Al Pacino his long sought after first Oscar for Best Actor. Poor Charlie has to spend Thanksgiving weekend trying to keep the Lieutenant from hurting himself and others. HOOAHH!

Hannah And Her Sisters 1986

The Woody Allen story of family, infidelity, fights, and reconciliation over 3 Thanksgivings.  Michael Caine and Diane Wiest both won Oscars for their supporting roles in the film, one of Allen's best.

Alice's Restaurant 1969

The movie about the story made famous by that song we play on the Rat every Thanksgiving! You know, with the arrows and the circles and things...

Home For The Holidays 1995

In my opinion a very underrated film. Directed by Jodie Foster, and starring Holly Hunter, Robert Downey Jr, before his big Hollywood comeback a decade later, and a fantastic ensemble cast you know .

Believe it or not, Jimmy’s first job was overnights at a Christian Radio Station. He claims he got into radio because like Rocky Balboa once said, “cause I can’t sing or dance.” Jimmy loves to write about all local happenings, especially around his town of Toms River. Next to that, it would have to be the day I was baked on earth day in Central Park and met Keefer Sutherland…baked too, I believe.
