I came across a list from the website, Best Of NJ, ranking the best sandwich shops across the state of New Jersey divided by region.
According to the site, all of these places have their own specialty sandwich or sub. This includes places that are well known for constructing  gut busting creations, jam packed with a variety of items, like chicken cutlets, fresh mozzarella, roasted peppers, and house made pestos.
A lot of these places may be on your radar, so you may already be in the know, especially if you’re a super New Jersey foodie.

What the article doesn’t tell you, is the criteria they use to create these rankings.

Could it be the author’s opinion? Maybe like me, she goes by word of mouth.

It could even be a list compiled by the collective opinions of people she comes across online.

Whatever the list is based on, I have to agree that the list is good.

Most people can tell you what their favorite sandwich or sub is. If it’s not made at home, they all have a mental list of their favorite places to grab a hearty sandwich.

If you follow my food articles, you know that most of my lists are compiled based on the opinions of the foodies on social media and messages boards here in the Garden State.

I have my favorites for sure, but I can be swayed by the opinions of New Jerseyans who share their favorites with me.

For instance, Mid- Shore Meats on Fischer Blvd. in Toms River has always been a favorite of the Wednesday Warriors’ and the Jersey Food Warriors’ crews, and I would often see their videos online, gathering members from their social media sites heading over to this place.

I eventually followed their advice and grabbed myself a chicken cutlet sub with broccoli rabe, and sharp provolone on Brooklyn bread.
It was so delicious and very filling, I couldn’t finish it in one sitting. Mid-Shore Meats is not on Best Of NJ’s list, but it is on mine.

Let’s take a look at just a few of the places on the list divided by region.

Joe Leone's Italian Specialties - 510 NJ-35, Point Pleasant Beach, NJ 08742 -Jersey Shore

This place was sure to make the list. Joe Leone's is iconic and a favorite of the WRAT crew. They were born a year after the WRAT signed on the air.

The Speakeatery - 705 Cookman Ave, Asbury Park, NJ 07712

Most definitely on MY list. Their creations come from the minds of mad food scientists with  limitless possibilities.  This is one of those places where the picture of the sandwich online looks exactly like the sandwich you order in person.

Taliercio's Ultimate Gourmet - 500 Route 35 Red Bank, N.J. 07701

I'm addicted to their Instagram page!  Their incredibly creative subs are beyond belly busters. It'll take family of 4 to finish one of these masterpieces of greatness. Oh,  and don't sleep on the in house made fried ravioli.

Mystic Market LBI - 2901 Long Beach Blvd, Ship Bottom, NJ 08008

The first thing that jumps out at you the minute you log on to their website is; FRESH SEAFOOD, HAND-CUT MEATS, AND EXQUISITE EATS IN SHIPBOTTOM N.J.

They are the home of the gigantic sub. They even make 20 inch subs! They're also pretty well know for their lobster rolls.

Brick Grocery & Sandwich Shop - 288 Egg Harbor Rd Unit 12, Sewell, NJ 08080

"All I needed was to see one review from a very dedicated Fan. His name is Will Edwards and this is his review: Simply the Best Hoagies ! Made to perfection with the best ingredients! The finest Imported meats cheeses and produce all in one hoagie and made with Love !
Everyone give them a try you won’t regret it And the owner and his son are extremely passionate and professional at what they do!"

Waller's Deli - 1572 Route 206, Tabernacle Rd, Tabernacle, NJ 08088

Waller's is an unassuming place that makes great hoagies, cheesesteaks, club sandwiches and Reubens. Plus, the staff donates a portion of their tips to a different charity or shelter every month. They call themselves, "Home of Tabernacle's Original Breakfast Burrito."

Peter & Sons Sandwiches - 20 Delsea Dr, Glassboro, NJ 08028

John Cohl from the South Jersey Food Scene has mentioned this place to me on a few occasions as being one of the best in South Jersey along with Boaggio's in Mt. Laurel, which did not make the list. People love Peter and his family, they put lots of love and care into everything they create.

The Kibitz Room - 100 Springdale Rd, Cherry Hill, NJ 08003

Stacked meat sandwiches & other Jewish deli classics. Right up my alley! I love a good corned beef sandwich, and apparently this is the best place in South Jersey to get one.

Benanti's Italian Delicatessen - 16 W 22nd St, Bayonne, NJ 07002

This place is the definition of old school. It's so old school, that there is no need for them to create a menu board. You walk in, choose a loaf of bread from the cardboard boxes, take a walk to the counter, and tell the nice man what you want him to put on it.  It's a mystery how much your sandwich is going to cost because all the bread is different sizes. Cash is king at Benanti's.  But from the reviews I've read. so worth whatever you wind up paying.

Cosmo's Italian Salumeria - 705 Main St, Hackensack, NJ 07601

These guys have popped up in  a few of my past articles thanks to Jersey sandwich lovers. Cosmo's is within walking distance of where several scene's of The Soprano's were filmed. Not only are the sandwiches and subs great, the prices are very low for such great quality ingredients.  I'm dying to try the eggplant parm hero. I'm told it's one of the best in New Jersey. Heads up, the lines are usually long, but waiting to sink your teeth into one of Cosmo's creations is so worth the wait.

Hobby's Delicatessen & Restaurant - 32 Branford Pl #2723, Newark, NJ 07102

Folks have been enjoying sandwiches and other food made at Hobby's since 1962. Just steps away from where the N.J. Devils play. Hobby's is an old fashioned Jewish deli with overstuffed sandwiches and a great staff.  Voted one of the top 10 delicatessens in America by Food & Wine magazine.  I love how the owners describe the place;" We pickle our corned beef in 55 gallon vats in our basement. We have a large vegetarian selection, our soups are homemade as are most of our desserts. We have been satisfying customers since “before you were born!”

Town Hall Deli - 74 1st St, South Orange, NJ 07079

The Sloppy Joe Sandwich was invented here in 1935. Not the manwich kind of sloppy Joe with the ground beef. The Jersey Sloppy Joe is made with different deli meats, but I believe the most famous one is made with; roast beef, turkey coleslaw, Russian dressing, Swiss cheese, on Pullman Rye.

Dolce & Clemente's - 2 N Commerce Square #101, Robbinsville Twp, NJ 08691

I'll be making a trip to Robbinsville very soon. D&C is so fantastic, Guy Fieri has been here to film "Triple D" twice! They have more than 100 home cooked items available every single day. The sandwiches are unlike anything you're accustomed to eating, and the prosciutto bread is said to be the best in the U.S. Watch it being made in this clip from the Food Network.

R U Hungry - 95 Hamilton St, New Brunswick, NJ 08901

Home of  "The Original Fat Sandwich." It all started with the grease trucks on the Rutgers campus back in  1979.  If it's fried, it goes on the fat sandwich. Mozzarella sticks, chicken tender, onion rings, French fries, it's all there if you want it.  Want a cheesesteak with chicken fingers. mozzarella sticks, French fries, covered in marinara? They've got it.

Randazzo Pastry Shop & Bakery - 611 US-202, Raritan, NJ 08869

Italian cookies, cannolis & deli sandwiches offered in an old-school setup with sidewalk seating. All the bread and rolls baked on the premises. I love a shop that has fresh desserts available to eat after I eat my lunch. Their subs are noted for being the best in the area.
