The Yankees made a big splash last night by acquiring left-handed ace Carlos Rodon. Rodon will get $162 million for six years. Rodon was 14 and 8 with a 2.88 ERA last year for the San Francisco Giants.

He’s also pitched well for the White Sox. And even better…Rodon had pitched very well against the Houston Astros…in seven career starts…he has an ERA of 1.44 against them. So, this is a really good signing by the Yanks.

Let’s be fair. Yankees owner Hal Steinbrenner has finally stepped up to the plate and hit a couple out. First, he gets the Aaron Judge deal done. Now, he further backs up the Yanks’ staff with this talented lefty.

Yankee General Manager Brian Cashman doesn’t get as much credit as Hal. This apparently was something that Judge spoke directly to Hal about when they were negotiating his contract. Hal said he would go after superstars again. Sorry, Cash…this is a win for Hal…not you.

At the end of the day…it seems like the Yanks are back in 2009 mode (when they signed C.C. Sabathia, Mark Teixeira, and A.J. Burnett all in the same offseason). Good for Hal. And good for Judge (for demanding that the Yanks spend some cash). Let’s go Yankees!
