There are so many good reasons to visit Long Beach Island In Southern Ocean County, New Jersey.

The beaches are the most obvious reason to visit.

Oh, but the places you’ll see!

LBI is a top-rated Summer destination for New Jersey residents and out-of-state tourists alike. If you’re planning a visit or an extended vacation to Long Beach Island, it’s a good idea to be in the know when it comes to food and drink.

The best way to gather info outside of a Google search, is to ask the locals.

I am constantly on the hunt for info for the best places to go for great food, great service, and a comfortable vibe.

Now comfortable doesn’t necessarily mean quiet. What I mean by comfortable is, a place where you feel welcome. A place where you don’t feel rushed, a place where you can sit, and savor a killer plate of wings and maybe an ice cold beer to wash them down.

Long Beach Island  has some well known places that serve up some outstanding wings.

The locals and people who visit LBI on a regular basis know where to go. But do you?

Even if you live in the Garden State, you may not have had the chance to take a drive down to the Southern New Jersey Shore.

If it’s a part of  your future plans and you’re a connoisseur of wings, I’m going to give you a bunch of suggestions, based on word of mouth from the folks who have been to these places a zillion times.

I will also review some of the food ratings sites to see if the opinions of the people I polled match the ratings these places have received in the recent past.

Wings may not be considered healthy, especially if they’re deep fried, but damn are they good.

Here is a list of eateries to get some of the best wings on LBI.

  • The Chicken or the Egg - 207 N Bay Ave, Beach Haven, NJ 08008

Nearly 70% of the people I asked about wings on LBI, named this place. It was the #1 response by a country mile.
Wednesday is Wing Night – 5 wings for $5.

  • GYRO HAVEN - 907-909 N Bay Ave, Beach Haven, NJ 08008

The Gyros here are out of this world. This place should be called GYRO HEAVEN! Get the lamb gyro with double meat and extra white sauce. HOLY Sh**, is it good.

Now on to the star of the article…WINGS. They have delicious JUMBO wings in hot or mild.  I hear they’re meaty, juicy and absolutely delicious.

  • Barry's Do Me A Flavor - 309 Centre St, Beach Haven, NJ 08008

Barry’s Famous Garlic Rolls & Cheesesteaks are the most talked about items on their menu, but the wings should be in the top 5, according to foodie friends Thomas, Doug, and several others. They are big meaty mofos of goodness.

  • Dio's Cafe - 512 Long Beach Blvd, Surf City, NJ 08008

I would show up here on their name alone! If you’re a rocker, you know why. Look for the big yellow house with the red umbrellas for some good grub including the wings. Available in Honey BBQ, Buffalo, and my favorite, garlic parmesan.

  • Northside Bar & Grille - 1500 Long Beach Blvd, Surf City, NJ 08008

Most of my favorite wings come from a bar. It might be psychological because I almost always have to have an ice cold Blue Moon Belgian White or a Leinenkugel Summer Shandy  with my wings. This bar has a great variety of some pretty meaty wings: Buffalo, Lemon Pepper, Bang Bang Sauced Wings, Hawaiian BBQ, and Korean BBQ.

  • Buckalew's Restaurant & Tavern - 101 N Bay Ave, Beach Haven, NJ 08008

A beautiful historic place that attracts an upscale clientele, but still down to Earth enough to offer a good plate of wings

. If you’re adventurous like me, you’ll try their hoisin  glazed duck wings.  Open Year round serving classic American dishes. Customer favorites include seafood, burgers, and more.

  • Tuckers Tavern - 101 Southwest Ave, Beach Haven, NJ 08008

If you’re going to choose only one place out of all the places mentioned, this should be it. My friend Tony said that Tucker’s wings would rank near the top of his Top 5 list. Do you want to take Tony’s word for it? Go taste for yourself.

The Gastro-Pub inspired menu is loaded with creative hearty dishes as well as coastal favorites.

  • Baker's Port Hole Bar, Restaurant & Liquor Store - 1620 Long Beach Blvd, Ship Bottom, NJ 08008

This dive bar which has been serving the Island since 1936 is cash only and may be famous for their roast beef sandwiches, but their chicken wings shouldn’t be ignored. ***Warning*** If you don’t like breaded wings then skip’em. If you don’t mind your wings breaded, then you can choose from: Plain, Garlic, Buffalo, or Buffalo Garlic, served with Bleu Cheese.

  • Woodies Drive-in - 509 Long Beach Blvd, Ship Bottom, NJ 08008

This old school joint is cash only and are known to have excellent Buffalo wings. Grab an order with one of their delicious burgers and fries.

  • Robbie's Chicken Shack - 857 Mill Creek Rd, Manahawkin, NJ 08050

Chris wrote: “best chicken wings i’ve had in my life and reasonably priced.” Ok then. Chris wasn’t the only person to praise Robbie’s, lots of folks called Robbie’s to my attention. It’s Cluckin’ Good Chicken!

You can get  your wings naked or breaded, and choose from : Medium, Hot, Honey Chipotle BBQ, Coco Loco, Garlic Parmesan, Balsamic Glaze` *CHOICE OF BLUE CHEESE OR RANCH*

Plus chicken sandwiches, fried chicken and more.
