Curaleaf (not pictured) says the revocation of their license to dispense to recreational weed users is "political".

A lot happened while the weekend was raging… while you were getting the mulch, getting the kids over to their soccer games, heading out to party with friends…

No worries, we have a pretty good wrap up for us all here.

  • Turns out that the Rutgers faculty strike wrapped up while we were enjoying the after-effects of our Friday night…
  • Turns out that a local runner is going for the record in his age group at the Boston Marathon…
  • Turns out that Bruce caught COVID – he and Patti are two of only about 390 people who’ve tested positive according to state numbers…
  • And it turns out that emergency response did their amazing work with that wildfire in Little Egg Harbor…

  • Rutgers Back In Session After Strike Ends

Rutgers University Faculty Vote To Go On Strike, A First For The 257 Year Old University

NEW BRUNSWICK, NEW JERSEY – APRIL 10: Rutgers students wait for a bus on the morning that faculty and students began a strike at the university’s main campus on April 10, 2023 in New Brunswick, New Jersey. Union officials representing Rutgers faculty at three New Jersey campuses decided on Sunday they would strike starting Monday morning after failing to reach a contract in negotiations with Rutgers President Jonathan Holloway’s administration. The strike, the first in the state university’s 257-year history, centers around increased wages for graduate workers and securing longer contracts with benefits for part-time professors. Classes resume at Rutgers today as the faculty strike ended early Saturday morning. This was the first strike at Rutgers since it was founded in 1766. Rutgers President Jonathan Halloway said only that the deal provides “fair and equitable wages, benefits, and work conditions” for faculty, grad students, and part-time lecturers. Union apparently agreed.

  • Little Egg Harbor Wildfire

That wildfire in Little Egg Harbor has been 100% contained.  New Jersey State Forest Fire Service says the blaze tore through parts of Bass River State Forest, the Stafford Forge Wildlife Management Area and the Warren Grove Bombing Range. They’re still investigating the cause, but no structures were lost.  Great job by first responders. In all 1600 acres were torched.

  • State revokes recreational weed license

One of the recreational marijuana dispensary companies has just LOST its’ license to sell in the state.  Sounds like Curaleaf didn’t disclose some of their operations changes to the state when they applied to renew their recreational sales license.  So, recreational sales are now longer allowed at their locations in Bellmawr and Edgewater Park beginning this Friday. Curaleaf called the move “political retribution”.

  • Local runner in Boston Marathon today

The Boston Marathon is today, the APP has a story about Bayville’s Rick Lee who is vying to top the record for his age group of 60-64.  2 hours, 45 minutes.  Good luck to the runners in Boston today.

  • Bruce day is now official

Bruce Springsteen Day is now an official thing in New Jersey.  September 23rd was declared by Gov. Murphy while in Long Branch over the weekend to attend the inaugural American Music Honors event presented by the Bruce Springsteen Archives and Center for American Music.  That event, apparently yearly, will honor American artists.  The first honored Steve Van Zant, Darlene Love, Sam Moore of Sam and Dave, and the Outlaw Country great Steve Earle.  By the way, Bruce and his wife couldn’t make the event:  They got COVID.  The first leg of his tour wrapped on Friday in Newark.

Confirmed cases are way low in the state, Bruce and Patti are two of the 382 confirmed cases by PCR test according to the state’s online COVID dashboard.
