Well you're reading that right, Jackson schools will be charging parents for that late school bus ride home. After-school activities for students look like they will be coming with a charge because according to the district, it has a $18 million budget deficit.

I'm guessing you don't want your kid in after-school detention, because that will come with a charge. This sounds like it will be like a big huge yellow Uber ride just to get your kids home safe. An Uber might actually be cheaper or even getting your child a taxi ride.

The Jackson school district will now charge middle and high school students to ride the late bus home from sports and when after-school activities are going on. The grant money will cover two days per week of busing, but the rest of it will be up to the parents to pay for.

“We know that we have to address the needs of the school district, the township that is growing, all with reduced sources of revenue from the state,” said Dan Baginski, who is the business administrator for the school district.

The cost of this year’s late busing will be $55 per middle school child per season and $95 for each high school student per season. But the fees are not to exceed $285 per family per year.
