The Morning Rat Race

Hola, amigos!   It’s your pal Davey Mac here and we’ve got an jam-packed Sports Report for ya as always!   Scroll down for baseball, basketball, hockey, and football news!

But before we get to the action…let’s chat about the New York Yankees.   They just won Game 1 of their series with Cleveland and are looking good.

The question is…if the Yanks fail to win the World Series this year…what changes need to be made?

First up…Yankee General Manager Brian Cashman.

Boston Red Sox v New York Yankees

Cashman has been the Yankee GM for over twenty years and has made some fantastic deals in his past.   However, the past two offseason acquisitions and trade deadline maneuvers have been horrible.

While Yankee fans were desperate for Manny Machado or Bryce Harper or Juan Soto or top of the line pitching…Cashman went with lesser players who have not panned out.   Joey Gallo was an unmitigated disaster as a Yankee.   Aaron Hicks has gotten old quickly and become a bit of a bust.   And the Frankie Montas trade was atrocious.

Meanwhile, the Mets and Dodgers and Astros all reloaded with top of the line pitchers and hitters.   Cashman and the Yanks were left in the dust.   Yes…the Yankees may still win the Series…but it would be DESPITE Brian Cashman and certainly NOT because of him.

The next move that should be debated about is what to do with Yankee manager Aaron Boone.

If Cashman gets fired, should Boone get canned as well?   I think this one is trickier.   I personally am okay with Aaron Boone as the Yankees manager.   He seems to use the bullpen well and has the confidence of the team behind him.   The players like playing for Aaron Boone.

But, if the Yanks fail to win the October Classic, will Boone survive?   I’m not so sure.   Even if the Yanks only gave Cashman the boot…a new GM would probably want to hire his own manager…and Boone’s days would most likely be numbered.

The easiest way to avoid all of this controversy?   Go out and win the World Series.   The Yankees need to do it this year…or BIG CHANGES need to be made.   And that’s my two cents.

  • Simmons Stays Off Social Media

Brooklyn Nets star Ben Simmons is looking to finally getting back on the court this season after missing a year-and-a-half of basketball.   The All Star swingman said the key to his happiness right now is spending very little time on social media.   “Even the other day there was a clip of me air-balling a shot at the park…like…come on, man, you think I’m just air-balling every shot?”   Hopefully Simmons can bring the defensive and passing skills to Brooklyn that he’s been known for in the past.
