EPA is on the site of 15 Marl Road in the Farmingdale area of Howell for chemical clean up.

Heads up Farmingdale and Howell. There’s a possible evacuation warning from the EPA due to chemicals in storage in your town.  The location is that Marl Road “complex” that had the chemical fire earlier this month.

EPA crews are working to identify the chemicals inside abandoned barrels at a former chemical plant on Marl Road. EPA crews were working carefully Sunday evening at the site near the Farmingdale-Howell border. NBC New York reports, it’s not clear how safe it is to move the barrels.

The plant has long been shut down but earlier this year, the property’s new owner burned some barrels in an old incinerator and fumes drifted into nearby communities. The EPA says residents must be ready to leave at any time in the event of a chemical fire.

Of major concern is that the Howell High and Middle Schools aren’t far from the location as the bird flies..

Local residents are encouraged to sign up for local direct messaging from the EPA.
