Good morning, Rat Rock Nation!   It’s your Sports correspondent Davey Mac here back with another Report for ya!   Things are really heating up for the Knicks!   Baseball Spring Training!   Super Bowl terf controversy!   And more!   But first!

Sources are saying that the New York Giants and superstar running back Saquon Barkley could be close to finalizing a deal for Saquon to return to the G-Men.   No word yet on the pay and years of the contract.   But, if you’re a Giants fan…this is a good thing.   Saquon was absolutely brilliant this year.

Meanwhile, sources are also saying that the Giants and quarterback Daniel Jones are still very much “far apart” on terms of a new deal.   Apparently reports of Daniel Jones asking the Giants for $45 million a season for a multi-year deal are true…and the Giants are balking at that number.

My take on the situation: the Giants need to close the deal on Saquon and put the franchise tag on Jones.   It’s as simple as that.   Saquon was the overall best offensive player last season and is indispensable.   Jones had a solid season and should be rewarded…but forty-five million bucks is crazy!   I’m Davey Mac!   That’s my Sports Two Cents!

  • MLB New Rules More Offense

Well, one of the new rules that baseball is enforcing this year is that there are no more defensive shifts allowed…and so far in Spring Training the results are positive.   Runs and batting average were both up through the first wave of games compared to spring training a year ago.   Batters are hitting .272 through Feb. 28, with an average of 11.9 runs scored.   That’s up from a batting average of .259 and 10.6 runs through the same time period in 2022.   Also, strikeouts have been lowered as players are making more contact.   And because the games have been shorter by nearly 25 minutes…more offense has not resulted in longer games.

  • Super Bowl Terf Was Indeed Bad Says Expert

You know how the grass at this year’s Super Bowl was all slippery?  Well, here’s why.   George Toma is a groundskeeper who has either prepared or advised every single Super Bowl field.  They call him The Sodfather.   And he knows what happened.   George says they “watered the hell out of” the grass on Wednesday, then rolled it into the stadium and covered it with a tarp.  But what they SHOULD have done was let it dry out in the sun first.   In addition to being slippery, it also started to ROT and emit a foul odor.  They also didn’t sand the grass enough, and they sanded it too late.   George blames NFL field director Ed Mangan, who used to work under him.  He says quote, “He didn’t take care of it.  He wouldn’t listen to anybody.”   George is 94 years old, by the way, and he’s had enough.  This was his last Super Bowl.  He says, quote, “I can’t take it anymore.  Me and the league are finished.  They can’t tell me what to do anymore.  We’re done.”
