National Cheese Lovers Day is Friday January 20th, and what better way to celebrate than chomping on some Cheddar or swallowing some Swiss?
I think it’s no coincidence that National Disc Jockey Day and National Cheese Lovers Day are the same day, January 20th. I know personally I have loved being a DJ for over 30 years, but have loved eating cheese a hell of a lot longer! Honestly, what’s not to love? Cheese may be the greatest thing to come from a cow. Yeah I said it!
The strange thing is, as much as I love cheese, I never thought to go on a local cheese shop tour. I mean, I love beer, and I visit breweries. I like wine and have been to many a local winery. Heck, if you’re a regular listener of my show or reader of my articles, you know I’m always hunting down the best hot sauce shop. So why then, have I never sought out one of my favorite fat boy foods done by master craftsmen in their own local shops? Truth is, I never knew they existed at the Jersey Shore. Oh but they do!
There are quite a few Cheese Shops in Monmouth and Ocean Counties, but you have to look for them!
The majority of ones I found when doing the old Google Maps are located in Monmouth County, with a couple in Ocean. Some are part of Gourmet shops, while others sell their cheese to pair nicely with the wine they sell at their Bottle shops. My suggestion is to do a cheese tour! Check out each of these locations one weekend and pick and choose the varieties you like from all that they have to offer. The great thing about cheese shops is that they are very good about offering samples, especially of their more exotic cheeses. Yup, no matter how you slice it there’s only one true way to honor National Cheese Lovers Day, so let’s cut the local cheese!
