Good morning, Sports fans!   It’s your pal Davey Mac here and we’ve got a fun Sports Report for ya!   Hockey, hoops, and football are covered…but first!   BASEBALL IS BACK!   Hoorah!

It’s Opening Day, gang!   And we couldn’t be more excited!   You’ve got games upon games on this magical day where it feels like Spring has finally arrived (and Summer is on its way).

Fans across the country feel that optimism that THIS year could be OUR year!   The glasses are half full today for baseball fans!   Let’s go!

Washington Nationals v Philadelphia Phillies

We’ve got some new rules changes this season which were designed to speed up the game.   And so far, the rules seem to have worked…in Spring Training games the average game time was reduced by 26 minutes.   So here’s a few of the new rules:

There will be a pitch clock (similar to a play clock in football or shot clock in baseball).

Pitchers are now allowed to attempt a pickoff throw twice…if a pitcher throws over to a base a third time and does NOT pick off the runner…the runner automatically gets the next base.

Pitchers can now use a digital device to call their own pitches…rather than waiting for the catcher.

Hitters can only step out of the batter’s box for a brief period of time.   If they take too long…a strike on them will be called.

The defensive shift has now been banned.   Fielders have to play in more traditional zones for their positions.

The bases are also bigger…hoping to prevent injury.

All in all…it’s a great day to be a baseball fan!   Who do YOU think is winning the World Series this year?!   I’m going with the Yankees because I’m a hated Yankees fan and that’s what we do!   No matter who you root for…enjoy the day!   It really is special!   I’m Davey Mac…that’s my Sports Two Cents!
