Remember on Friday when we heard rumors about a new music festival was going to be announced soon?  Well… That New Jersey based music, arts and technology festival was announced yesterday.  It’s going to have a cool local impact because some of the events will be in Asbury Park in June.

The festival is being called “North To Shore”, as in “from the Northern part of the state to the Jersey Shore”, I guess.  So far, 27 different venues are involved in all the events spread between Newark, Asbury Park and Atlantic City.  Governor Murphy said at the press conference yesterday he hopes it’s like the South By Southwest festival in Austin, but reflecting New Jersey Artists.

The North To Shore festival begins in Atlantic City June 4th to 11th.  The Asbury shows are June 14 to 18 and the Newark dates span June 24 to 25.

So who’s playing locally?  Glad you asked. This is what we know of as of press time. It’s possible that additions will be made.

Two shows in Asbury Park on June 14th.

Brian Fallon to play Stone Pony

Brian Fallon of Gaslight Anthem will do a solo performance inside the Stone Pony on Ocean Avenue.  Donovan Woods opens up the show.  Clearly this is an opportunity to catch a dynamic intimate performance from Brian.  Opportunities like this don’t come too often.  Don’t forget:  the last Gaslight show was at the PNC Bank Arts Center for thousands and thousands of people… The Stone Pony show will be a treat for those who can get in.

Also on June 14th, just down the street:  The Sensational Soul Cruisers at The Wonder Bar.  11 horn players and 4 vocalists.  Serious tribute to the soul sounds of the 1960’s, 1970’s and 1980’s.  This is  throw back and a darn good time.  Watch a video or two on their website and you’ll flash back and want to be there.

Local Rockers Dentist to play N2S Festival

Local favorites Dentist will perform on June 15th at The Wonder Bar on Ocean Avenue.  Little Hag and Low Light open up the show.

Tom Hanley, WRAT Jersey Rock programmer and host, comments on Dentist:

“Dentist is an Asbury Park staple that has reached well beyond the local scene with their unique brand of fuzzy Surf Rock. They’ve repped the Garden State on the national level, rocking many high-profile music festivals, and reached even further with their creative music videos.  I’m proud to call them “Jersey Rock Vets” and look forward to witnessing their future achievements.”

Multiple shows in Asbury Park for the “N2S” festival:

An East Nashville Tribute To The Traveling Wilburys

Nicole Atkins (grade school friend of the Morning Rat Race’s East Side Dave) will be at The Wonder Bar and Demi Lovato will be at The Stone Pony Summer Stage.

Not just that:  There will be a Vintage Turf Club show at The Turf Club.  Back in “the day” The Turf Club was part a serious music scene on Springwood Avenue… The thriving home of the African American community on The Jersey Shore.   Read more about it here and just know that if Billie Holiday played there (she did), that’s something to be cherished.

On June 17th even the House of Independents gets in on the action as The Haunting perform there on the 17th.  Also on the 17th it’s the remaining members of The Smithereens and Marshall Crenshaw at The Wonder Bar.  But the big show that night is The B52’s at The Stone Pony Summer Stage, Tin Roof – Rusted!

    Jarod Clemons

The Asbury Park portion of the festival wraps up on Sunday, the 18th with Jarod Clemens at The Wonder Bar.  Jarod says he’s “excited to do this show honoring his father” and we’re pretty stoked about it too.
