Are Onion Rings Your Thing? Here Are The Best Places To Get Them On The Jersey Shore

Onion rings were a special treat when I was a kid. Some fast-food places that served onion rings were subpar. Back then, I thought they were one of the best things I've ever eaten.

A lot of places were known to make onion rings with minced up processed onions. I can't believe I actually liked them as a kid. Now that I am all grown up, I have a handle on what really good onion rings should taste like.

I never really had a fantastic onion ring until I had a driver's license. Having freedom to go where you want on 4 wheels was something all little kids think about. We all want to grow up fast and do the things adults do. Now that we're adults, we want to be kids again. Isn't that how most adults feel?

Now that I had the keys to a car, one of the first places I went with my friends was the local diner. How cool were we? Four teenage girls sitting down in a diner booth without our parents. We felt liberated and somewhat sophisticated. Come on, I was 16.

Is there really anything sophisticated about going to a local diner? Of course not. At the table across from us, was a young couple with a huge basket of these fluffy battered O shaped food items. One us asked, "What's that in the basket?" The couple replied in unison, "Onion Rings." "Onion rings?" we replied. They shot us a bewildered look and said, "Yes, onion rings."

You have to realize that we only knew from White Castle and Jack-In-The- Box onion rings. I will admit that Jack-In-The-Box onion rings were my weakness, but they looked nothing like the diner onion rings on the couple's table.

These days, lots of places offer these flavorful breaded or batter dipped goodies.

It's time to grow up and eat real onion rings from some favorite places on the Jersey Shore.

These beer battered onion rings should be the given some sort of award. Soft and crunchy at the same time.  The onion rings and a plate of their Reuben Rolls with an ice cold beer will complete my weekend.

Not really onion rings, but onion petals I've been told they are flavorful bunches of goodness. Add the Bang Bang sauce and the sun will shine brighter. The Corn nuggets get a thumbs up as well according to Mark K.

These onion rings are on my personal list of favorites. A big ol tower of 13 onion rings makes me happy. I usually have to share with the hubby, but most people couldn't sit with someone at a table with a tower of these babies and not grab one or 2. They comes with a side of Campfire Mayo, and a side of Ranch.

Eating these onion rings may become a habit after your first bite. The batter is savory, and the crunch is an 8 out of 10.  Don't skip the current Seasonal featured burger, The Korean Char, it's a seasoned chargrilled patty, topped with tender braised beef marinated in teriyaki sauce, white American cheese, soy garlic aioli kimchi, caramelized onions on a soft brioche bun.

No one really goes to a Jewish Deli for the onion rings. When you order you corned beef and pastrami Reuben, ask for a side of their crispy onion rings. Ruth S. tells us we won't be sorry.
