Good morning, Sports fans!   It’s Davey Mac here with another action-packed Sports Report for ya!   Baseball Opening Day!   Devils Vs. Rangers!   New turf at MetLife Stadium!   And more!   But first!

Did you see the Yankees’ new prized short stop, and New Jersey native, Anthony Volpe make his Yankee Stadium debut yesterday?   Wow, was that awesome!

Volpe’s family is from Watchung and he attended Delbarton in Morristown.   He was drafted by the Yankees and is (or should we say “was”) one of the absolute best prospects in the Yankee system.   The great-fielding, 21-year-old shortstop had a fantastic Spring Training in which he hit over .300 and impressed the team.

Volpe was great.   While he didn’t pick up any hits…he got a walk and instantly stole second…and he was solid in the field.   He even handled the “Anthony Volpe” chants by the Bleacher Creatures like a ten-year veteran!

It’s really exciting to have a guy like Anthony Volpe on the Yanks.   Combined with the two Oswaldo’s…the Yanks are experiencing a youth movement right now an that’s pretty cool.   Plus…they still haven’t called up another top prospect, 20-year-old Jasson Dominguez!   So the Yankees have that going for them…which is nice.

After the game…Volpe was fantastic and professional at the press conference.   He talked about his stolen base, gave praise to Brett Gardner (Volpe wears number 11, previously won by Gardy), and he called it the “greatest” day of his life.   Wow.

In any event…welcome to the Bronx, Anthony!   You’re gonna be fun to watch!   I’m Davey Mac…that’s my Sports Two Cents!
