On October 29, 2012, Hurricane Sandy made landfall marking it the costliest disaster in Garden State history. The category 3 hurricane also known as “Superstorm Sandy” devastated the East Coast with it especially taking a tremendous toll on New Jersey and the Jersey Shore.
One particular area in Ocean County was the Borough of Mantoloking which was left unrecognizable. Hurricane Sandy’s record-breaking storm surge crushed the small beach town while ripping dozens of homes from the ground and even washing some away.
The Mantoloking Police Department shared the photos below with us capturing their tragic view of the aftermath back in October 2012. Now, ten years later, we are looking back at what some are still recovering from to this day in the year 2022.
We would like to thank the men and women of the Mantoloking Police Department for their service.
