Frank Zappa would’ve turned 79 today (December 21), and while he hasn’t been with us in over two decades, he’s returned to the stages thanks to “The Bizarre World of Frank Zappa,” the hologram tour that premiered this year.

Zappa, of course, isn’t the first deceased musician to return to the stage thanks to hologram technology. In honor of his birthday, here are some other musicians with holograms.

• Frank Zappa

  “The Bizarre World of Frank Zappa” went on a nine-date U.S. tour in April and May this year to positive reviews.

• Ronnie James Dio

  The Ronnie James Dio hologram also went on tour in 2019 under the name “Dio Returns,” which featured a number of backing musicians that also performed in the Dio band when the late Dio was alive.

• Roy Orbison

  The Roy Orbison hologram tour first debuted on tour in 2018 in Europe and then returned stateside later in the year on a 28-date tour.
• Buddy Holly

  The Buddy Holly hologram would make its debut in Fall 2019 oddly enough on tour with the Roy Orbison hologram.

• Tupac

  The Tupac hologram was one of the first holograms of a deceased artists to make a grand debut, which took place at the 2012 installment of Coachella alongside Snoop Dogg and Dr. Dre.

• Whitney Houston

  The Whitney Houston hologram will be heading out on tour in early 2020 in Mexico and then travel to Europe for tour dates in March and April. A tour in the United States is expected to take place in fall 2020.
• Michael Jackson

  Michael Jackson’s hologram made it’s grand debut at the 2014 Billboard Music Awards.
