Event Details
Hi,

I am writing to let you know about a wonderful upcoming charitable event that will be held in honor of the memory of Ed Harris, who died of severe Covid-19 complications on April 18, 2020. His sons, Jeffrey and Nicholas Harris, have put in motion a loving tribute to their father’s memory called “Run to Remember” that is a 5k race planned at Holmdel High School on September 19, 2021.

Ed Harris tragically lost his life to this horrific virus at the young age of 55, at a time when he was a healthy and happy husband to his wife, Dina, of 25 years, and fatherto his 2 incredible sons, Jeff (23) and Nick (21).

Ed was a life-long resident of Holmdel who whole-heartedly was involved in the community especially in supporting and coaching Holmdel youth sports leagues. His parents, Joe and Joyce Harris, were also residents of Holmdel for over 60 years having raised 7 sons who attended the Holmdel Public School System, and were, themselves, a very influential part of the planning and establishment of Holmdel High School.

Ed was proud to carry on the family business of Holmdel Farms who, together with his father, served the Holmdel and surrounding community for over a half of a century by providing expert landscaping.

The community outpouring in reaction to Ed’s death has been nothing short of impressive as it seems everyone who ever knew Ed, whether from his days at Holmdel High School to coaching many years of Holmdel baseball youth league teams, or who knew him through Holmdel Farms seemed to have a genuine love for this wonderful man.

Ed was one of the most kind-hearted people you could ever hope to meet, and would generously donate his time to helping anyone in need. He had such a nice gentle way about him, and was a lot of fun to be around. His personality was infectious and very hard to forget.

Ed, like so many other innocent unsuspecting people, were victims of this senseless infectious virus, and it still seems illogical and almost incomprehensible that he, and others like him, lost their lives in such a tragic way.

In dealing with their grief, his sons have decided to give back to the community who came out in a show of overwhelming love and support for their family at this time of personal tragedy.

I am proud to be helping my nephews, Jeff and Nick, in organizing this event of which they have done an outstanding job so far. I was hoping that you would be able to mention the 5k or interview Jeff and Nick about their upcoming 5k event so your listening audience can come out to support this great event and honor the memory of this outstanding man.

The charities that will benefit from the event are the New Jersey Pandemic Relief Fund (njprf.org) and Helping Families in Monmouth County (hfcf.org).
