The Long Branch Arts & Cultural Center opened The Branchport Galleries on Monday. Four new galleries arrived. The facility doubled its size, taking over the back section of the old Bank of America building at 577 Broadway.

Work began in August along Branchport Avenue after the Office of Community and Economic Development relocated to 20A 3rd Ave. The new wing features archways and wood flooring. There's room for classes and workshops.

"We were bursting at the seams," said Mayor John Pallone, according to The Link News. "Each month, we see growing interest from artists wanting to exhibit their work, more ideas for special exhibitions, and increasing numbers of visitors."

The original facility opened in 2021 inside the old bank building. Since then, it has held exhibitions across all artistic disciplines. Thousands of visitors walked through its doors. Classes for all ages started, and events filled the calendar year-round.

"We're excited to bring even more art, classes, workshops, and programs to our community," said Arts Director Maggie Fischer. "With the addition of new easels, art supplies, and other creative tools, we're able to provide an even more enriching, hands-on educational experience for everyone who visits our center."

The new wing launches with For the Sake of Art, an opening exhibition that brings together wood sculpture, painting, photography, fiber art, and ceramics. Work created for no reason except that it had to exist.

One gallery spotlights young artists from across Monmouth County. Charlotte Mathias, a Long Branch resident and high school junior, curated Unframed. More than 30 students contributed. Drawings, mixed media, photographs, and paintings fill the walls.

"Art plays a vital role in the health and well-being of our community," Fischer added. "Supporting young artists is essential, and it's inspiring to see such incredible talent who contribute to growing our creative network."

The addition strengthens Long Branch's commitment to arts. The existing Broadway Gallery and the new wing work together now, offering more room for artists and audiences alike.
