Streets across Atlantic City and nearby beach towns will shut down Oct. 18 and 19 for the annual marathon. Starting at the boardwalk, the race will affect traffic throughout the area.

On Sunday morning, from 5:30 to 11:30 a.m., runners will take over the Brigantine Connector and Atlantic City Expressway Tunnel. This blocks main paths to downtown spots when most people want to get there.

The timing hits right when casino workers switch shifts. Staff can't use Borgata's parking from 6 to 10 a.m. Workers at Borgata, Harrah's, and Golden Nugget should add extra time, maybe 30 minutes more, to their morning drive.

The race shuts down other key spots too. You won't be able to use Bacharach Boulevard between MLK Boulevard and the connector from 5:30 to 9 a.m. Renaissance Point stays closed until 11:30 a.m.

The marathon on Sunday will impact the traffic flow in Atlantic City. Motorists should expect major delays and detours in the following areas:

  • Brigantine Connector/Atlantic City Expressway Tunnel will be closed from 5:30 am to 11:30 am
  • Bacharach Boulevard between MLK Boulevard & Brigantine Connector will be closed from 5:30 am to 9:00 am
  • Renaissance Point Boulevard closed from 5:30 am to 11:30 am
  • Borgata employee parking & delivery entrance will be closed from 6:00 am to 10:00 am
  • Employee access road to Borgata, entrance to Borgata, Harrah’s, and Golden Nugget will experience delays from 7:00 am to 10:30 am
  • Bacharach Boulevard, New Hampshire Avenue, and Melrose Avenue will experience delays from 7:00 am to 10:30 am
  • There will be no parking along the route of the events

Police warn that both days will see packed roads. They've also banned bikes from the boardwalk in Atlantic City and Ventnor on Sunday from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m.

At least Mother Nature's playing nice. Runners will enjoy partly sunny skies with perfect temps in the mid-60s. Much nicer than last week's wild coastal storm.
