A new park will soon take shape at Clifton Avenue and Batchelor Street in Toms River. State funds totaling $750,000 will transform this empty space into the downtown area's first major recreational spot, with construction starting in spring 2026.

"I am excited to share a significant development that will enhance our community and provide much-needed recreational space for our residents," Mayor Dan Rodrick said, per Shore News Network.

Plans call for spreading 12 pickleball courts across three locations: Shelter Cove, Bey Lea, and Snug Harbor. Each tennis court space can fit six pickleball courts, making smart use of existing space.

Aging sports facilities will see major upgrades. Workers will resurface basketball and tennis courts at three sites: Snug Harbor, Skyview, and Bey Lea. These spots haven't seen improvements in years.

Clifton Avenue residents won't need to trek to Castle Park or Silverton Park anymore. The new space brings a playground right to their neighborhood. Kids who once had to travel far for recreation will soon find fun just steps from home.

With engineering blueprints nearly complete, the project will move ahead swiftly. Selected playground features will cater to children of various ages, from toddlers to older kids, with swings and specialized play zones.

"Remarkably, we are accomplishing all of this without a municipal tax increase for the past two years, demonstrating our dedication to responsibly investing in the future of our town," Rodrick said. The grant money fully funds the construction costs.

While 2026 marks the target for finishing all improvements, officials haven't pinned down specific dates. The community waits as this blank canvas transforms into a vibrant space for play and connection.
