You should know your flags before you have an opinion on a situation, as a woman from Montclair New Jersey just found out...

The hateful crime at Efi’s Gyro gained much attention on Tuesday after a woman posted a viral video on TikTok of herself ripping down the flags and lights, then apologizing when told they were Greek flags. The woman is heard referencing the Israel-Gaza War.

The owner of a gyro shop on a bustling corner in Montclair stated that the Greek flags on the restaurant hung on bright lights before they were ripped down. Efthymia “Efi” Mihalis, owner of the restaurant at Bloomfield Avenue and Park Street, said she reported the crime to police when it happened back in March.

“All I want to say is that it was not a skit and that it happened eight months ago,” according to reports. “I filed a report eight months ago and nothing happened until now."

NJ Crazy Women Rips Down Greek Flags

The video below shows this woman ripping down the Greek flags, and Police Chief Todd Conforti and another officer were seen at the shop on Wednesday morning. No flags were visible, and the decorative lights remained.

The woman turned out to be a TikToker with the username @ambamelia.

She is heard saying " “I’m taking this down. We don’t support this over here,” she said. “We support Palestine over here. We don’t support this. We don’t support none of this.”

That is when a shop employee tells her they are Greek flags, at that point she apologizes and asks if the shop wants the flags back.“Really? I thought it was Israel. My bad,” she says.

Mihalis said community members have been kind to the shop after learning of the flag ripping. “They’re very supportive after what happened,” she said. “It was not predicted at all. It was out of nowhere.”

So in conclusion, PLEASE don't touch anything that does not belong to you or damage someone else's property no matter what your beliefs are.

Sometimes it's better to just walk by, bite your lip, and keep moving, it will keep you out of trouble.
