Will The Yankees Finally Win The World Series
Will the New York Yankees finally win their record 28th World Series title, and their first in 15 years? Well, the playoffs are here, so let’s dive right in!
After going 94 and 68, the Yankees won the American League’s Eastern Division, and wrapped up the best record in the American League, assuring them home-field advantage throughout the 2024 American League Playoffs. They also now have a bye in the first round of the playoffs, as the Wild Card winners duke it out. The true test for the Yankees begins this coming Saturday night as they begin their postseason quest for their 28th World Series Championship, more than any other team in any other American sport. The Yankees will face the winner of the Baltimore Orioles
Who Will Lead The Charge
Well, obviously the best player on the planet just happens to play for the Yankees. However, Aaron Judge‘s monster season will just be another footnote in his career if he doesn’t get a World Series ring this year.
Meanwhile many are wondering if Juan Soto‘s career with the Yankees will be one and done, or if the free agent to be will sign possibly the biggest contract in baseball history, if…and maybe only if, the Yankees win it all.
Then there is Gerrit Cole. The reigning Cy Young Award winner didn’t get started until mid-season due to injury but appears to have rounded into mid-season form heading into October. At 34 years old, a pitcher never knows how much his arm might have left in the tank. Expect to see Cole go out with his killer mindset and attempt to dominate hitters like never before.
But There Are Still Questions Looming
For one, who will be playing first base now that Anthony Rizzo is out for the American League Division Series which as previously stated starts Saturday? Riz fractured a couple of fingers over the weekend, and manager Aaron Boone and GM Brian Cashman seem to be leaning toward rookie Ben Rice and super utility man Oswaldo Cabrera to fill in. Rice played quite a bit over the summer when Rizzo was first injured , with mixed results. Cabrera, while not as seasoned at first base, can play every position in the infield and has shown to be a solid glove and capable bat. Meanwhile in the outfield it still remains to be seen if the Yankees will choose Jasson Dominguez’s bat over Alex Verdugo’s glove in the lineup.

So the Yankees are in the postseason, after missing it last year. They seemingly have the best lineup they have had in decades, good starting pitching, so so relief. What will that translate to as October rolls on. Chilly nights in the Bronx, and perhaps, just perhaps, the ghosts showing up to give the Yankees fans what they have waited a decade and a half for. Another World Series Championship.
One thing is for sure. It’s time for Serious October Baseball.
