USS New Jersey Will Be Commissioned Saturday In Middletown
Let’s get you over to Middletown this weekend, as the US Navy’s newest ship will be commissioned this Saturday, September 14th.
According to njcommissioning.org, the ceremony is at the U.S. Naval Weapons Station Earle in the Leonardo section.
Saturday’s commissioning ceremony is an official U.S. Navy event, so you must have tickets to be there. It is not open to the public.
Members of the public will be able to see the USS New Jersey arrive Friday, when the submarine makes its way through Raritan Bay to drop anchor at Earle’s beautiful pier that goes into the bay.
This is expecting to have a lot of people in attendance, so if you are interested in going you might want to plan and get there early.
Some Stuff To Know About The USS New Jersey And the Commission
A commission is where boats or submarines are officially recognized as becoming part of the Naval fleet. Now the USS New Jersey is a PCU-796 Virginia-class submarine, also known as an SSN-774 class. It is a nuclear-powered cruise missile fast-attack submarine.
The badass sub was built by Huntington Ingalls Industries in Newport News, Virginia. This commissioning will also tell the story of the official transfer of a warship from the shipbuilder to the United States Navy.
The USS New Jersey is the third naval ship named after the state of New Jersey, so how cool is that? Always love to get stories and information on US Military. God Bless All Of Our American Troops.
