Russo Gutter Steve

It's an all-time winning recipe! Not only is it the best recipe for preparing wild caught Bluefish, but it's one of the oldest. A time-honored tradition passed down for generations from fathers to sons, mothers to daughters, up and down the East Coast for a hundred years or more.

Blue Fishin'!

We'll get to the recipe in a bit. First, let's talk Bluefish fishin'! It seems by mid-July those little snappers have grown into 2-3 foot monster Blues. Every boat at the Shore is out to get them too. Our friends at the Golden Eagle are without a doubt some of the best for taking your group out for a mid-summer Bluefish slaughter!

It gets messy, it gets bloody, it even gets a little smelly, but in the end, there are few fish in the ocean that pound-for-pound fight quite like a Bluefish! All you need is some bunker, or a shiny jig and the ability to reel fast, and you have a shot at one in deep water. Once you get a hold of one on your hook, you'll know it. This is not a sport for those with weak wrists, that's for sure. A 10lb Blue can feel like 50 fighting to stay down below. They run under the boat, tangle lines, snap your line, lose your tackle, and more. However, if you get one, it's a good day. An accomplishment. Even if most folks don't "like the taste of Bluefish". Well, we're here to cook it the right way!

Here is the Jersey Shore's Best Bluefish Recipe!

You can thank me later. First, get yourself a nice fillet of Bluefish. Your First Mate will filet all you want on the boat on the way in from your trip. Next, you want to get a nice big cedar plank, like they use for Salmon. You want to rub that plank in oil with a high smoke point, like avocado oil.

Next, season the plank with a little salt and pepper. Place it on low to medium heat on the grill. Then, take your Blue fish fillet out of the plastic bag, being sure to wash it off in cold water. Next, wrap the fish in newspaper, 3 or four layers. Wrap it tight. Now, take the cedar plank off of the grill. Next, take the wrapped Bluefish and toss it gently in the trash. Wait for the cedar plank to cool a bit and enjoy.

Nobody likes Bluefish. You're Welcome.
