Another Dead Whale Found on New Jersey Beach
A dead whale washed up on the shores of Long Beach Island on Thursday, April 11, 2024. It was found on 51st street around 6:45 a.m., according to the Marine Mammal Stranding Center.

The MMSC, Long Beach Township Police, New Jersey Department of Fish and Wildlife, and New Jersey Conservation Police were on the scene to investigate.
The estimated 20-to-30-foot humpback whale is reported to be the first washed up dead whale of 2024.
The MMSC will be taking the carcass to be autopsied. Afterwards, the process of disposing of the whale includes moving the whale to a dumpster and burying it on the Township Department of Works’ property.
The Marine Mammal Stranding Center (MMSC) is a 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to rescue, rehabilitate, and release marine mammals, as well as sea turtles. The MMSC is the only Federally-authorized animal hospital in New Jersey that responds to animals in distress and can provides medical treatment.
