Well, this sucks, according to News 12 New Jersey, that crews will no longer be based out in Atlantic City for Spirit Airlines.

Officials from the airline were reported to saying on Monday that the company will re-direct deliveries, on the Airbus planes, and put about 260 pilots on furlough until they can properly reallocate funds.

This plan will go into effect on September 1st.

Reports from Spirit Airlines CEO, have stated that this is not the direction they want to go, but they are saying this move is necessary to ensure a strong profitable future.

This company says deferring the planes will boost them by about $340 million over the next 2 years.

Spirit Airlines Cuts Crew And Delay Plane Deliveries And How That Will Affect Us:

According to Spirit's President and Chief Executive Officer, Ted Christie, "This amendment to our agreement with Airbus is an important part of Spirit's comprehensive plan to bolster profitability and strengthen our balance sheet." Also stated by Christie " Deferring these aircraft gives us the opportunity to reset the business and focus on the core airline while we adjust to changes in the competitive environment."

FORT LAUDERDALE, FL - JUNE 14: Sandra Esquivel waits to hear how she will get back to Columbia after being told by a Spirit Airlines Inc. employee that all flights were still cancelled after the pilots began their strike at the Fort Lauderdale International Airport on June 14, 2010 in Fort Lauderdale, Florida. The pilots went on strike in a dispute over pay and benefits with the Miramar, Florida discount airline which is seeing the first strike at a U.S. passenger carrier in nearly five years. The company did report on how difficult the decision is to close the crews based out of Atlantic City. They are opening a new crew base in the Northeast to get coverage from one of their larger cities and are hoping to finalize a new crew base in the near future in Atlantic City.

In my opinion, if we are looking to head to Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, or any hot spot in Florida we are going to pay high prices. I always loved flying out of AC airport and flying on Spirit, it was very easy to get to, and inexpensive tickets were always available. Check this out I'm heading to Fort Lauderdale, Florida this week and got tickets on Spirit Airlines for just $80 ROUND TRIP!

So in conclusion let's hope they come back around and get us up and down the coast for cheap flights. Thank you for taking the time out and always rocking out with me and 95.9 The Rat. You can get more stories from me and please share by clicking right HERE.

Much Love and Cheers. - Gotts

Gotts is the unofficial mascot of the county. Whenever WRAT is hosting an event, people ask if Gotts will be there. there. Like Bigfoot, many people claim to see him in the area. According to Gotts, he was thrown out of home school in Monroe Township. To keep up with his own legend, Gotts likes writing about wacky local news that happens – such as pepperoni vandals. His favorite movie is Point Break, and is a big lover of Miller Lite. His favorite words to live by are “The windshield is always bigger than the rearview mirror”.
