Here we go...

the two-wheel electric skateboard known as the hoverboard has New Jersey legislation asking for a minimum age. The age will be 16 years old, to operate the hoverboard. In this bill they are trying to get passed it also states that anyone operating a hoverboard needs to have a helmet strapped to their head.

Plus you can't go over 10 mph, I've seen a bunch of these at the boardwalk here in Belmar. You can get more information on this by clicking right HERE.

I do remember when these hoverboards first came out, and my nephews getting them for Christmas or birthday gifts. You don't have to worry about me being on one because I busted my ASS the first time. I went flying back and went through a table and took out a cheese dip dish.

On another note, it would be interesting to see a police officer clocking people on hoverboards to see how fast they are going and making sure they are over the age of 16.

What Is The Penalty Of Not Being The Minimum Age Of Riding The Hoverboard

Alright so if you get busted breaking these rules, the parent or legal guardian could be looking at a $25 fine for the first offense, and a $100 fine for additional offenses.

If you are a store owner selling or renting one of these electric hoverboards you must have a sign in the window for the rules according to this bill. Here is what the sign will say, "State law prohibits any person under 16 years of age from operating a motorized skateboard and requires a person to wear a helmet using a motorized skateboard."

Marty McFly's hoverboard from the 1989 film "Back To The Future Part II" is displayed at Propstore on May 9, 2022 in Valencia, California before auction next month. - The hoverboard ridden by US actor Michael J. Fox who played Marty McFly is estimated to sell at between $80,000 - $120,000. (Photo by Frederic J. BROWN / AFP) (Photo by FREDERIC J. BROWN/AFP via Getty Images)

According to the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports, emergency room accidents, injuries, and even deaths have gone up 127% from electric moving devices from 2017 to 2021.

The hoverboards are already banned from being brought on a bunch of airlines. American, Delta, and United Airlines have said nope, and not even good to be checked in. According to the Federal Aviation Administration, the high-wattage lithium batteries can spark up a fire in the storage compartments.

So in conclusion, Michael J. Fox might have been the first one in "Back To The Future" to ride the hoverboard and no one checked his ID, but at any rate, we do need to be careful. I don't want anyone injured and please be safe if you do operate any moving piece of machinery.

Gotts is the unofficial mascot of the county. Whenever WRAT is hosting an event, people ask if Gotts will be there. there. Like Bigfoot, many people claim to see him in the area. According to Gotts, he was thrown out of home school in Monroe Township. To keep up with his own legend, Gotts likes writing about wacky local news that happens – such as pepperoni vandals. His favorite movie is Point Break, and is a big lover of Miller Lite. His favorite words to live by are “The windshield is always bigger than the rearview mirror”.
