Pay $30 To Drive Into NYC? Here’s Your Chance To Tell New York City What You Think About It
Public hearings on the congestion pricing in NYC are happening.
Heads up, Jersey. If you want to tell the M.T.A exactly how you feel about having to pay almost $30 to get into Manhattan under 60th street, today is the day. Today is the first day for public hearings on the congestion pricing plan. The public will have their chance to chime in today at 6pm. Follow up public meetings are scheduled beginning next week as well. The meetings will be held in person at 2 Broadway in Manhattan or virtually. Here’s more information on how to make a comment live at the event or how to send a comment to be included in the official public record. The M.T.A says they are accepting live comments too.
What Is Congestion Pricing?
The M.T.A says that they’re going broke keeping themselves together and need to raise more funds. In order to do that they invented the “Central Business Tolling Program”. They drew a line horizontally across Manhattan at 60th street and said that anyone that wants to go south of that would have to pay a toll. Their plan is to set up EZPass tolls and cameras on the southbound avenues and automatically charge cars and trucks. The amount of the added charge would depend on what time of day you were headed south of 60th street. Higher tolls at peak times, lower tolls at non-peak times.
The plan would also tack on additional tolls to people travelling across the Hudson River from New Jersey. Add up all the tolls and fees and you’d be paying almost $30 to get into Manhattan if you took the Holland or Lincoln Tunnels. You read that correctly: THIRTY BUCKS TO GET INTO LOWER MANHATTAN from New Jersey.
What Do You Think About Congestion Pricing?
Governor Murphy says he doesn’t like the idea of congestion pricing to get into Manhattan. The Rat Rock Nation has been 99% against the idea. These public hearings on the congestion pricing plan will be the only opportunity to tell the M.T.A what they can do with their idea. Have at it. In the meantime, have a look at amazing places to catch the sunset on the Jersey Shore.
These Are 11 Great Places To Catch The Sunset With A Drink On The Jersey Shore
Everyone on the Jersey Shore knows the best place to see a sunrise; just head to any local boardwalk and point your eyes to the east and you’ll be treated to a fantastic view almost every time! But, I was recently asked the question, “Where’s your favorite place to see a Jersey Shore sunset?”.
The question got me thinking about the various characteristics of a restaurant or bar that’s great to catch a Jersey Shore sunset. Here’s what I came up with:
- Has to face to the west, preferably with a view that is over a body of water. The water view is key, in my opinion. A sunset over a group of houses in some urban hellscape isn’t quite as magical as a beautiful red sun sinking into a hillside on the other edge of open water.
I mean, that’s it, right? A great spot for a Jersey Shore sunset only needs to face west.. and when I got thinking about it, there are not a ton of places with a water view that actually faces west. Only a spot along one of our inland waterways (a bay or a river) will set this up properly.
I did some research, scanned my memory, I asked the Rat Rock Nation on our social media, and took paper into hand, and here’s what I came up with: The best places to catch a Jersey Shore Sunset.
I make my list from north to south from Monmouth County to Ocean County. If you’d like me to consider adding a place that I’ve missed, please send me a note because I’m always looking for a great place.
