Jersey Rock Artist of the Week: Devon Thompson
New Single “So Close” Available Now!
Gibson-endorsed guitar vixen Devon Thompson continues to demonstrate just how brightly darkness can shine. Her latest single “So Close” has a haunting vibe, exploring a chilling subject matter that combines elements of violence and infatuation. Released at the height of spooky season, its a tune that is perfect for Halloween. Speaking of the new song, Devon said:
“‘So Close’ is a nightmarish fairytale about someone who turns on their lover and kills them just because they suddenly thought it would be poetic. A Serial Killer all along, but no one ever knew… It’s a moody, dark, ethereal slow burn that is sure to keep you on your toes. The writing is designed to be a little agonizing, the performance is almost a little unsettling. It all goes with the theme of the song, the murder and the mystery.”
Reminiscent of Guns N’ Roses’ “Used To Love Her” and paired with a music video that conjures memories of Tom Petty’s “Mary Jane’s Last Dance,” “So Close” is a macabre love story that finds beauty in madness. Like much of Thompson’s work it channels an almost contradictory, raw but polished vibe. It’s brimming with both romantic and homicidal ambition. There’s a somewhat detached but still emotional charge present throughout the song, like it was written by a vampire that has walked the earth for a few centuries. We’re not accusing Devon Thompson of being among the undead, however we are confident they would dig her music.

Tune to Jersey Rock on 95.9 The RAT Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday night at 11:30 pm to hear the latest tunes from Devon Thompson. Devon will call in to the show each night. We’re proud to premiere “So Close” on Halloween! It’s a day Devon is quite fond of. Speaking of the evening of October 31st, she said:
“Halloween is the best holiday for me. I am naturally a “spooky” person, so it’s easy for it to be my favorite holiday. I think what I like most about Halloween is getting to express your interests in whatever it is that you like, and you get to dress up as that. It’s never generally socially accepted to just randomly dress up in costume year round. But, Halloween is a time that I get to express myself and express the things that I am into. “
