Exploring The Culinary Delights Of West Creek, N.J : My Memorable First Visit To Ott’s Good Earth Garden Restaurant
I finally had the pleasure of dining at Ott’s Good Earth Garden in West Creek, New Jersey, just a few miles from Manahawkin.
I’ve been wanting to try this place since Bob Hawk, one of our listeners from Manahawkin, told me about Chef Geoff Johnson’s incredible food.
Bob was telling me about the Ship Bottom Sprint for Life event that happened back in April, benefiting the Leukemia Society, and how Chef Geoff Johnson and the Schmid family, owners of Ott’s Good Earth Garden were platinum sponsors of the event.
Chef Geoff created a masterful chef’s dinner to help raise money for this worthy cause. All the ingredients Geoff uses are locally sourced, so everything on your plate is fresh. Ott’s Good Earth Garden is a true farm to table experience.
I immediately logged on to Ott’s Good Earth Facebook page to read all about the event and to gather info so I can talk about it on the air.
It’s very clear to me that the folks who own and run Ott’s Good Earth Garden are very involved in the community and are always willing to give back.
This past Monday evening, I experienced their hospitality as the restaurant hosted a Roaring 20’s themed dinner and show called, “The Roaring Funnies”, featuring actors from the Riddlesbrood Touring Theatre Troupe.
Chef Geoff and his staff created a 5-course progressive dinner, with dessert prepared by Chef Umberto. Geoff, his kitchen staff, and the restaurant’s waitstaff all donated their time for this spectacular sold out event.
Each course was designed to represent the 1920’s with hints of prohibition.
The food was magnificent! I’ve never experienced a progressive style dinner like this before, and this introduction was enlightening.

Recently, my friend, Chef Umberto Turelli started a non-profit organization called, “Cookin’ For The Cause.”
Umberto and other local chefs choose from a list of charities that are near and dear to their hearts and donate the proceeds from a variety of food-oriented events they present.
The charities that benefited from this past Monday evening’s event are, “Ocean Of Love”, a non-profit organization that raises money in Ocean County for children with cancer, and “The Maximilian Foundation”, an organization focused on fundraising to support educational programs for children.
Chef Turelli and chef Johnson go back a few decades in the business, having worked together in a few New Jersey restaurants.
This is one of many events to come that will involve other chefs from the area including Chris Barlow, who recently re-opened his restaurant, Big Barlow’s BBQ in a new location on Main Street in Manahawkin.
