Over the weekend, Bruce and I ventured out to the Belmar-Lake Como area to see his brother play drums in the band, "Illegally Blind" at Salty's Beach Bar on Main St.

I love Belmar and Lake Como, it’s my home away from home. I’ve worked in the Belmar-Lake Como area for nearly 27 years.

WRAT, my place of employment, has marched in every Belmar – Lake Como St. Patrick’s Day parade since 1997. We’ve been to practically every bar in town.

This is our town, and we love to support our local businesses.

Everyone who has ever worked at the WRAT has been to McCann’s since we stepped foot in what was known as Belmar in the late 90's. We knew and loved the McCann family, especially Tom Sr.

The food and the service has always been very good at McCann’s, they've always treated us like family and always made sure we ate well. Their steaks at the bar were legendary.

McCann’s is the epitome of your friendly neighborhood bar. Our favorite WRAT brother, Gotts spent some time there back in March of this year before the Belmar- Lake Como St Patrick’s Day parade shaking hands, drinking beer, and meeting the new owners.

Yes, our beloved McCann’s is under new ownership and upgrades have been made to the place. I personally have not met the new owners, but I hear they’re nice.

Bruce and I met up with his friend Lisa from his old neighborhood in Hazlet and her boyfriend Joe for dinner on Saturday at McCann’s.

We got there about 20 minutes before our guests, and we were seated immediately in a booth in the back dining room.

Our waitress, Josie was warm and friendly. When she came over to take our drink order, she recognized my voice, and asked me if I was Rockyn Robyn. I get that a lot. I think it’s funny.

Then Josie and I both discovered that we used to go to the same hairdresser.

Our dear friend and hair Goddess, Johanna Raio, who did the best up dos for special occasions than anyone I had ever met. She always made me look like a million bucks.

Johanna, aka, Joanne is no longer with us, so I raised my vodka martini in her honor.

When our friends arrived, we got down to business with our order. A nice tall Guinness for Joe, another Tito’s dirty martini for me, and 2 unsweetened iced teas for Bruce and Lisa.

For appetizers we ordered the Blarney Balls - Lightly fried corned beef sauerkraut and Swiss cheese balls served with a side of Russian dressing, and an order of Garlic Parmesan Wings.

I love the concept of taking a Reuben and deep frying it into a couple of bites, it was so good, you really got a taste of that delicious, corned beef.

The wings were soaking in garlic parmesan butter and had a really good crisp bite to them.

For dinner, it was a toss up between the sliced garlic steak and the Guinness burger, both Bruce and I ordered the Guinness Burger which is topped with bacon, frizzled onions (We asked for the frizzled onions on the side), BBQ sauce and cheddar cheese.

Joe ordered the Garlic Steak - Topped with garlic butter on toasted garlic bread and fries, and Lisa ordered the Garlic Shrimp – In a bath of fresh garlic butter and a hunk of crusty bread. He really enjoyed it. McCann’s really makes good steak.

Our Guinness burgers were huge!! OMG, after eating a few wings and a Blarney Ball, it was difficult to finish this monster burger that came with fries.

If you have a King-sized appetite this burger should be your choice. They do offer other burger selections, so I’m sure whichever one you choose, it’ll be juicy and satisfying.

I observed the patrons in various parts of the tavern. Everyone looked like they were having a good time. There was a duo playing music in the bar area, and the bar was very busy.

I also discovered that they do Bingo Brunch Sundays. $7.00 Bloody Marys and Mimosas and a decent brunch menu.

Their website reads: Here at McCann’s we strive to provide the best service to every friend that walks in. Check us out at 1704 Main St. in Lake Como. Stop in for great comfort food, a cozy atmosphere and a cold beer.
Thank you to all of our amazing customers. We appreciate the support going out to local businesses!

We will be back for sure! I really would like to head over to the Bingo Brunch. Come join us.
