Jersey Rock Band of the Week: The Hungry & Dangerous

The Hungry & Dangerous continues to unleash a killer onslaught of Modern Retro Rock! Their tunes don't just draw inspiration from music but also from specific life experiences.

It makes for a potent blend of creativity, energy, and nostalgia.  Their latest single “Young At Heart” is no exception. The track is inspired by the 1980s vampire classic “The Lost Boys.”  Jordan Taylor Moed got the idea one night after watching the film. He said:

The Hungry & Dangerous are not just creative, energetic, and nostalgic; they are also innovative.  Well before the world turned to Zoom for remote work, Jordan Taylor Moed and his partner Matt Lewis were beaming their ideas back and forth to create an intercontinental collaboration.  Moed is currently in Nashville, while Lewis resides in New Jersey.

The popular music city provides an excellent proving ground for new tracks.  Moed tests them on live audiences then touches base with Lewis.  Speaking on the new single he said:

Sweet or hot Italian Sausage is great any time of year. However, when it's summertime and it's done right on the grill or flattop on the boardwalk, it's to die for. Especially when it gets all caramelized, and then they use the grease to cook the sliced green bell peppers and Vidalia onions. Oh, baby, I shouldn't be writing this at lunchtime.

I guess the reason I prefer the Sausage and Peppers on the Seaside Boardwalk is that it's comfort food for me. Seaside Heights is where I started going in my teenage years. Meanwhile, having lived in Ocean County for almost 25 years, and Toms River specifically for 20, it's where I've taken my kids.

There are hundreds of places in the area that make a good sausage sandwich. However, they don't have the ambiance, if you will,  of the Seaside Heights Boardwalk. The other thing is, I know there are more than five places that make a good Sausage and Peppers, but hey this is MY personal list! Haha, maybe I'm totally off base and you can show me some better Italian tube steaks! Well, that didn't translate how I wanted, but let's keep it PG, for food's sake.

The list contains places where I have great memories of enjoying a sausage sandwich, as well as places that I truly feel have a superior product. Greasy, but not too greasy. A good ratio of peppers to onions, and peppers and onions to meat. Another very important criterion for a good SPOS is the bread! Too doughy and you got a soggy mess. Too hard you lose half your peppers and onions on the boards in front of Luck Leo's. Come onnnn! Oh, and my most personal requirement is, condiment options. Not just "sauce or no sauce". No no, that isn't enough. bring me the good stuff!

The OG and still my favorite. As iconic a building as there has ever been on those boards. You see it, then you smell it. The fellas workin' inside that hut don't say much, but boy they cook their asses off all Summer long. they are also the best because of the condiments table. Hot peppers? Sure take as many as you like. Malt vinegar for the fries? Right on! Hot sauce? homemade baby. My number one. Oh and not a bad cheesesteak either!

This landmark, open since 1977, that links the Heights and Park Boardwalks is known for many culinary adventures. From their gigantic pizza slices and pies, to their crazy brunches on football Sundays. However, I love their sausage sandwiches. Huge portions and always made perfect. Here's a great idea: Sausage Peppers and Onions Pie, with a side of marinara. Boom. Goodnight! Great beer list, and it's open all year!

Open since the 1950's, this is the Original Steaks, in case you were confused. What the name lacks in originality, they make up for in awesome late-night drunk food. They are on my list because you can get a gigantic Sauce-laden SPO sando for like 10 bucks. Plus you can add the famous cheeseballs inside, AND stuff it in authentic Newark Pizza Bread if you ask! Madone!

When I was a kid, I thought this was the same place as Original Steaks. However, it's its own thing. Almost exactly the same mind you, but it's own thing. Made famous the world over by the cheeseball guy from MTV, Bon Jovi, Chelsea Handler, and countless other celebs, this is another place to put your cheeseballs in your sausage! They also do a nice Sausage Parm Sandwich.

The classic Boardwalk Bar. Stroll on in off the beach, grab a cold draft beer, and just check out that giant pile of onions on the side of that grill. Damn, son! Jimbo's is grilling those sausages morning noon and night. Add a little live entertainment and you have lunch or dinner done right!
