Review –This Popular Place Is Our Favorite Diner In Ocean County
Bruce and I love our diner food, from hearty breakfasts to hefty dinner choices, this place gives us a huge bang for our buck.
We have a few diners in rotation in both Monmouth and Ocean Counties. But this one is our absolute favorite.
It’s won a couple of WRAT Shore Awards over the last couple of years.
The WRAT Shore Awards is a poll we conduct each Spring where we come up with a slew of categories that are voted on by our listeners and the general public.
Basically, everyone who comes across the poll on our website gets to vote.
People choose their favorite places that correspond with the categories. Then we narrow it down to the places that get the most votes for the finals.
The winner 2 consecutive years running is: THE RAINBOW DINER on Route 70 in Brick, N.J.
I’ve been so busy lately that I either have no time to cook, or I’m too tired to cook.
This past Saturday was one of those days I was too tired to cook.
Bruce and I ventured out to the Rainbow Diner at around 6 pm.
Although the place was busy, we were lucky enough to get a booth when we arrived.
A lovely lady named Lois was our server. Lois was a true gem. She provided us with old school hospitality and attentive service.
Bruce ordered the Yankee Pot Roast – that came with a German style potato pancake, apple sauce and a vegetable, he got the glazed carrots.
I love a good fish dish, so I ordered the Flounder Francaise with lemon butter sauce, a baked potato, and sweet & sour red cabbage.
We both had unsweetened ice tea, plus you get soup or salad and dessert.
I ordered the Cream of Broccoli soup and Bruce ordered a salad with Russian dressing.
The amount of food they load on your plate is enough for 2 people, unless you’re starving and Bruce was clearly starving.
Bruce practically cleaned his plate of this down home comforting dish filled with several slices of pot roast in a tomato based gravy.
I maybe ate half of the flounder, and a portion of the baked potato and cabbage.
We were stuffed! So stuffed that we took our creamy homemade rice pudding to go.
I had leftovers. I almost always have leftovers when I eat here.
The food was better than your average diner food, and the cost of these meals are very affordable.
I’m not sure how much the bill was, but I do remember Bruce’s meal was on the specials menu and I think it was $17.95. Remember, Bruce also got a salad and dessert with his huge entree for under $20 bucks.
Plus Lois, our server was worth her weight in gold.
If you’re going to the Rainbow Diner, ask for Lois before you are seated.
