Kicking Cancer’s Ass One Clap At A Time At The Jersey Shore
Our staff took part in a “Clap Out” for one of our own this week, when we surprised Beasley NJ Digital’s Annie Rodriguez Sjonvall as she exited her final Chemotherapy session!
Annie is one of the brightest, sweetest, most talented humans you will ever meet. However, back in December she got some bad news, and needless to say it’s be a tough year thus far. She’s winning the battle though, and kicking cancer’s ass! Annie’s husband Doug, a former Beasley NJ employee himself, invited us to a special event. Annie’s family had planned a “Clap Out” for Annie when she completed her 12th and final round of Chemotherapy this week. A clap out is exactly what it sounds like. A bunch of folks giving loud applause to celebrate the occasion, and what an occasion it was!
I personally have known Annie for 20 years, and she is the genuine article. She is a wonderful mother, wife, coworker, and friend. Her positivity and spirit is infectious. That positivity has really been put to the test these last few months, but like the true warrior she is, Annie is bringing the right attitude to each fight, and winning the battle! Meanwhile, her support group is made up of some truly remarkable people in their own right. Besides her rock, Doug, Annie’s Mom Bonnie has been a godsend. From helping with the children, as well as cooking and cleaning, Bonnie has made a tough situation a little more manageable. Annie’s sister Maggie too as been a constant help for her. A companion at doctor’s appointments, a voice for positive reinforcement, or just a shoulder to cry on. Their sisterly bond is the strongest I’ve ever seen.
In fact, Annie’s entire family is one of the closest I’ve ever known. They love to sing, dance, laugh and love. I often joke that they are the modern day Von Trapps. With a family like Annie’s, cancer doesn’t stand a chance!
One of the real surprises at the Clap Out, was Annie’s brother Jesse and his family flew in from Florida to join the festivities. Jesse’s a great guy, full of energy, and no surprise would be complete without him and his family being there. It made a great day even greater.
We took some photos and a video. I hope you can feel the love we have for our wonderful friend Annie.
