New Jersey: Now The Only State In The Entire Country Where You Can’t
Dateline, Oregon.
Guess what. We had something in common with Oregon.
No, it’s not being a coastal state.
No, it’s not a love of craft beer.
Or things to do outside.
It’s that we don’t pump gas. Us and Oregon.
Until now. Because Oregon is about to legalize self-serve gas station pumps so now we’ll be the only state in the entire nation where you can’t pump your own gas.
Why did Oregon do away with only full serve? Apparently, with this economy and nearly full employment it was hard to find people who wanted to do that job for minimum wage. That led to longer lines at the gas stations, took more time to fill up. So gas companies lobbied the politicians and boom. Self-serve.
So, what do you think, Jersey? As the only state in the entire country to not allow self-serve at the pumps. Does that make us great or make us stupid?
I hate to doubt the collective intelligence of my Jersey brothers and sisters but: Can you imagine the number of fires at gas stations when we are allowed to pump our own gas?
I’ve seen people screw up turn signals. I can’t imagine what some people would do at the pump. I just hope our fire departments and first responders are up for the challenge.
