We’re learning about why a shelter in place warning for Monmouth University went into effect on Wednesday night. Turns out: someone carrying a hair curling device was confused with a person carrying a gun.
The mistake caused all kinds of tension on the campus beginning at about 9pm Wednesday night when the mistake was called into campus security. Not to take a report of someone walking around campus with a gun lightly, multiple police departments responded to the report, bringing with them the confusion and calamity that a full campus lockdown will cause.
No evidence of shots fired was found and no evidence to think someone was strolling around with a gun was found. The university remained in lockdown until about 2am.
The investigation revealed that the person of interest was found and that they were carrying a curling iron.
It’s not known if the curling iron was still warm. Presumably, not.
Hey, we're happy that everyone is safe in the end.
