Howell Veteran Accuses Santos of Stealing Money Donated To Help His Service Dog

WASHINGTON, DC – JANUARY 06: U.S. Rep.-elect George Santos (R-NY) watches proceedings during the fourth day of elections for Speaker of the House at the U.S. Capitol Building on January 06, 2023 in Washington, DC. The House of Representatives is meeting to vote for the next Speaker after House Republican Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) failed to earn more than 218 votes on several ballots; the first time in 100 years that the Speaker was not elected on the first ballot. Long Island Republican stole money raised for Veteran's Service Dog.

The lies of a Republican congressman from Long Island have reached the Jersey Shore.  A disabled veteran from Howell has accused Long Island Congressman George Santos of fraud over a fundraising effort for his sick dog.  Santos has sparked controversy after he made verified false claims about his background, including his heritage – Santos lied that his ancestors fled the holocaust, his education – he lied about his college education, his professional career and sports achievements.  Well, Richard Osthoff of Howell says in 2016, Santos -- who went by the name Anthony Devolder -- promised him he could raise money for surgery to remove a tumor from Osthoff's service dog.  Devolder was one of several names Santos used before he entered politics.  Osthoff says the online fundraiser Santos set up for him raised three-thousand dollars -- but then Santos disappeared with the money.  Osthoff's dog died the following year.  Republicans from Long Island have said Santos should step down but so far Kevin McCarthy, the Republican Majority Leader in the House of Representatives, still supports Santos.

A crowd estimated at nearly two-thousand turned out last night for a candlelight vigil to remember a Monmouth County mother and daughter who were killed in a fatal house fire this past Friday in Hazlet.  Fire officials say the mother -- 39-year-old Jacqueline Montanaro -- died when she rushed into the burning home to rescue her six-year-old daughter, Madelyn.  Both died in the blaze.  A Go Fund Me has raised substantial money as well.

NJ commuters who use the Holland Tunnel are in for two years of construction.  New Jersey-bound traffic at the Holland Tunnel will be suspended six overnights every week, beginning at 11 p-m, beginning Sunday, February 5th.  The closures will last two years.  Note:  The Holland Tunnel will remain open Saturday nights so plan accordingly.

State health officials report New Jersey has recorded another 11-hundred-33 cases of COVID-19 and 14 more deaths but the daily case rates have fallen since a week ago.  The state's seven-day average for confirmed positive tests is also falling -- down 20 percent from a week ago.  Positive tests have risen overall this winter but they have not approached the surge the state saw a year ago following the holidays.
