Another new, exciting Italian eatery is making culinary waves at the Jersey Shore. This time is a new name with familiar local family roots!

The Palermo family, who's Rockafella's By The Sea, a Jersey Shore Summer institution in Ortley Beach, closed for the Winter this season, much to the dismay of locals, have opened a new year round eatery in Toms River! Say hello to the "Little One", Piccolino Italian Kitchen!

This brand new creation from the family, which just opened it's doors last week, is located at 1177 Fischer Boulevard, Toms River. The buzz is already strong for this self proclaimed "Italian Kitchen", and why not with the same great staff and ownership as "Rocks". However this place is a different animal altogether from it's big sister across the bridge.

First off the place is more quaint and intimate than Rockafellas. Moreover the food is, while less complex, is original and respectful to the old world Italian traditions, with some new takes on the classics as well. Take for example Piccolino's modern version of the classic Arancini.

Whether it be classics like Chicken Parm, Lasagna, and Spaghetti and Meatballs, or new and exciting menu items, such as the Winter Pesto dish with Linguine, the Mussels Lucca with tarragon cream appetizer, or the mouth watering menu description of their Alaskan Cod, prepared with tomatoes, capers, wild oregano, and served with roasted potatoes, Piccolino Italian Kitchen is anything but "Little"! They are open most nights at 5pm for dinner. It's BYOB, and they serve soft drinks and a light dessert menu.
