As music lovers, we all know the lush warmth and boldness of a vinyl record can’t be matched. We also know the explosion of reprinted albums has gone hand in hand with new and exciting vinyl shops opening all over the area. My wife and I visited one such place this past weekend, in hopes of finding some music, our soon to be 15 year old will groove on, listening to his new turntable we got him for Christmas. Gee, I hope he doesn’t read this before then! Meh, anyway…

The new record shop is appropriately named The Record Department, as it is two doors down from owner The Clarizio Music Center, located at 2428 Bridge Avenue in Point Pleasant. While it’s a small record shop, it’s packed with every genre of music you could imagine. The vibe was hip as we entered to the sounds of Sublime on the store hi-fi. The young lady behind the counter was very sweet and helpful and before I knew it I had found a sweet copy of Kill Em All under the tree. My son also digs certain rap music, and with the help of our hostess, were able to find one of his favorites. Meanwhile, my Yacht Rock-loving wife found the Holy Grail of that particular genre, grabbing a brand new reprint of Fleetwood Mac’s Rumors album. I can already here Go Your Own Way blasting while I’m getting blasted wrapping presents on Christmas Eve. Ugh.
The shop also sells compact discs, cassettes, and even retro-looking record players. A very cool local shop to hit the area indeed. The Clarizio Record Department’s website says they sell new and used vinyl, turntables, and accessories, as well as stickers, puzzles, picks, patches, buttons, and more! The shop is open Tuesday through Friday from 3 pm until 7 pm, Saturdays from 10 am to 5 pm, and Sundays from 11 til 4. Check it out, and happy hunting!
