Windmill Hot Dogs Under New Ownership
New owner promising improvements to the chain.
Monroe officials have approved changes to the township’s master plan, which include limits on residential development and expansion of existing parks. The changes follow a series of community workshops and a survey of residents that drew comments from more than 16-hundred respondents. Other updates drawn from the survey include more targets for open space preservation, better traffic circulation and more bike and walking trails. A Toms River man lost his life after the car he was in crashed and flipped into a marsh off Hooper Avenue. Two passengers in his car managed to escape safely but 28-year-old Paolo Helfers-Lariva didn’t make it. Investigators say he was driving at a high rate of speed and crashed off a pole before landing in the marsh.
A Toms River man is under mental health treatment following a two-hour standoff with police on Friday. It happened after a woman claimed he assaulted her in a home. Police managed to persuade the man to surrender peacefully after about two hours. He was charged with third-degree aggravated assault and unlawful possession of a weapon. He’s undergoing mental health treatment at Community Medical Center.
Windmill Hot Dog is under new ownership. Ralph Epstein bought it from the Levines, who’ve owned it for 50 years. In a news release, Epstein says he intends to maintain the WindMill’s charm and plans to upgrade the restaurants and extend their business hours. He says they will also open a food truck to expand their catering operation. “Gimme a dog off the fire.”
Single-use paper bags could return for a limited time in certain circumstances. A bill currently pending a state Senate vote would permit paper use for online services at grocery stores that are 25-hundred square feet or larger. Grocery stores have had problems adjusting to the single-use ban that went into effect a few months ago, ending up putting online orders in reusable bags which then pile up at customers’ homes.
The Mega Millions jackpot is climbing. No one picked all six numbers in Saturday night’s drawing. That means tomorrow’s jackpot in the multi-state lottery game will be worth at least 305-million-dollars.
