Plus:  October gambling revenues down.  Inflation?

There’s more information about the man who barricaded himself in a Neptune home.  Turns out, it was a guy who had just robbed a pharmacy.  He was then tracked to a home on 11th Avenue, where he engaged in an hours long stand-off with police. Jeffrey Migliore is facing several offenses including first-degree robbery.  Yesterday it was reported that Neptune police got the man to surrender with no injuries to themselves of the suspect.

They knocked down the Brighton Bar yesterday.  Opened in 1915, operated Greg Macolino since ’96.  Closed in 2021.  Specialized in punk, but was so much more… it was the CBGB’s of the Jersey Shore.  Gone.  Probably apartments/condo’s with retail below.

What’s up with gambling?  October 2022 gambling revenues are lower than October 2021, down 1% overall, that’s all gambling:  in person, online casino, horse betting.   Money won from in-person casino gambling fell by roughly seven-percent from a year earlier but still higher than pre-COVID figures in October of 2019.  Overall, this year’s take for casinos is up 4.5%, so October seems like a glitch, maybe caused by inflationary worries.

If you’re wondering why flags are at half-staff:  It’s because a former first lady of the state dies this week.  New Jersey’s former First Lady Lucinda Florio died Wednesday at the age of 75, just two months after her husband and former Governor Jim Florio died.  She was a former Camden county school teacher.

Marlboro is jacking up penalties for car theft.  This follows a police chase earlier this month that turned deadly.  Marlboro cops were in pursuit when a crash occurred on Route nine in Old Bridge, taking the life of an innocent bystander.  Higher penalties go into effect in December.

The Port Authority of New York and New Jersey is seeking toll increases as it looks ahead to its 2023 budget proposal.  The plan will be voted upon next month.  It comes just weeks after the New Jersey Turnpike Authority announced its own proposed increases to ride on the turnpike and Garden State Parkway.
