It’s the time of year when thoughts turn from your favorite beach to hit, to your favorite pumpkin patch to stroll, and the Rat’s got a list we think is just “gourdgeous”!

Finding the perfect pumpkin is more than just going to the supermarket and picking one out. Where’s the fun in that? I mean everyone’s got pumpkins this time of year. From Shop Rite and Stop N Shop to Lowes and Home Depot. Heck, I even saw a giant display of them at the Dollar General! No, this isn’t Christmas Tree hunting, my friend. However, just like some people like to cut down their own trees during the Holidays, you can now cut your future Jack O Lantern right from the vine at many area Jersey Shore farms, as well as find pre-cut pumpkins lying in a farmer-made “Pumpkin Patch”, that you and the little ones will just love!

Some farms go all out too! Complete with hayrides and tractor rides to the old punkin’ patch. Plus, some places have fresh apple cider, doughnuts, pumpkin bread, and desserts sold from stands before or after your trip to the patch. While other farms go all out, with pumpkin painting, giant corn mazes, farm animal petting zoos, and other activities, making it a full day of Fall fun at the farm! I’ve listed some of my favorites here and a few others that I’d like to go to this season. Oh, and remember, you’re never too old to throw on a flannel and head out for a day of seasonal excitement, don’t let anyone tell you different! You don’t need kids to go pick pumpkins or enjoy a fresh hot apple cider doughnut with friends and family. Now you may look a bit strange being the only adult painting your Ozzy pumpkin with a bunch of 4 year old’s trying to paint Oloff on theirs, but hey it’s all about fun. So enjoy, and get a good one at your local pumpkin patch!

Here are some great places to find your pumpkin at the Jersey Shore:
