Early estimates indicate that an all time record high ocean water temperature of nearly 85 degrees was recorded in Atlantic City on Thursday. Officials with the National Ocean Service removed the sensor located at the city’s Steel Pier for inspection on Friday. If the mark of 84.7 degrees is confirmed, it would be the highest reading in the more than 100 years of record keeping. Officials believe the sensor could be faulty.
The Matawan man accused of using blunt force trauma to murder his father in his home, he’ll stay in jail awaiting trial as he has waived a detention hearing. Ken Knapp Jr had his first court appearance yesterday, next one is towards the end of September. Police say that they found an internet search on a device: “how hard to break someone’s neck”. Knapp Jr faces first degree murder charges and human remains desecration.
Toms River is closing down a hookah lounge where a shooting occurred over the weekend. Officials announced on Monday the Certificate of Occupancy for “Top Tier Hookah” at 1783 Hooper Ave is revoked. Mayor Hill says they had already been under investigation by the Quality of Life Task Force, and that they ignored instructions regarding changes which needed to be made.
Hackensack Meridian Health has reversed course on closing their child care centers. Child care opportunity remains in place for this school year, open to employees at a subsidized rate and the community at large. A labor shortage, pay rate not attracting qualified candidates, causing the problem. The child care centers are at 6 of the 17 hospitals they operate including Edison, Red Bank, Neptune and Brick.
One New Jersey mechanic shop is doing what it can to combat the rise in catalytic converters. Doyle’s Automotive Services in Bergen county is spray painting the catalytic converter a bright color and etching the vehicle’s license plate number into it. Officials say the effort may have thieves thinking twice about taking the car part, adding it will be easier to return the piece if it’s recovered. Catalytic converters contain precious metals that can be sold.
