Oscar Mayer Is Now Selling Frozen Weiner Pops!
That’s right! Two of the best Summertime treats are coming together, as the Oscar Mayer hot dog company is now selling frozen hot dogs on a stick. Actually, it’s a frozen pop they call the “Cold Dog”, that tastes like the brand’s hot weiner, and allegedly boasts “both refreshing and smoky, umami notes” of a hot dog and topped with a mustard swirl. The idea stems from an Instagram post on Oscar Mayer’s account a few months ago, in which its followers originally deemed the idea “genius” in a poll. According to Oscar Mayer Spokeswoman, Anne Field, after the overwhelming response, it was deemed a “no brainer” to make a hot dog-inspired pop a reality.
It’s not a nationwide release, however. The “Cold Dog” is now on sale for $2 at select Popbar locations in Long Beach, New York City, New Orleans, and Alpharetta, Georgia, while supplies last. Popbar is a chain of gelato shops that helped Oscar Meyer make this freakish flavor.
Oscar Mayer is used to making people squirm to attract attention to its packaged products. Earlier this year it sold a bologna face mask that quickly sold out on Amazon. Some other ideas on the brand’s Instagram account include the Weiner Rake, a metal rake with thin metal rods at the end to stick hot dogs in and cook multiple dogs over a campfire, and the Weiner Bouquet, with pigs in a blanket, arranged like flowers, suitable for placing in a vase, and the Weiner Cake, which, well, is, you guessed it, a Birthday Cake made with Oscar Mayer hot dogs all over it.
One thing is for sure, you can’t knock the company for trying. Oscar Mayer’s parent company Kraft, lowered the value of the brand in 2019, noting the public’s shift away from overly processed foods. But who knows? Maybe frozen treats will sustain Oscar Mayer well into the 21st century! After all, they still have that badass Weiner Mobile!
