More Amazon Fresh Stores Coming To New Jersey
I love ordering stuff from Amazon. I wouldn’t call myself an Amazon addict, I just love the convenience of it all as an Amazon Prime member. I like being able to compare prices with the ease of a few keystrokes. I like the variety of items to choose from, and I especially like that my order will be on my doorstep in less than 48 hours.
The one thing I have never ordered from Amazon is food. I have never used the Whole Foods order option on the site, nor have I ever purchased food from any of the sellers in the Amazon marketplace.
I do love the produce at Whole Foods, so when in need, I run down the block to Whole Foods on Route 35 in Wall Township after work to grab my fresh vegetables. If you’re a Prime member, the cashier scans the QR code on your phone app to apply discounts if they’re available on the items you purchase.
I recently heard that Amazon Fresh opened their first New Jersey store back in mid-July in Paramus. I am not driving from Toms River to Paramus to food shop!
There will be a handful of Amazon Fresh stores opening a little closer to the radio station. The recent buzz indicates that an Amazon Fresh store will be opening in Holmdel Commons, that has not been confirmed.
However, another Amazon Fresh location will be opening on Route 35 in Eatontown in the space that used be the home of Toys R Us. That has been confirmed, but a target opening date eludes us.
I watched a news story a few months ago about how these stores operate. There are no manned or self-checkout lines. You grab what you need, put it into your re-useable shopping bags and walk out of the store, that’s it!
They use something called “Walk Out Technology.” There are cameras on the ceiling that scan every item you put into your shopping bag. When you leave the store, the scanner at the exit automatically charges the card you have attached to your Amazon account.
I’ll probably give it a shot, but I’m going to wait a month or two after they open

LONDON, ENGLAND – MARCH 04: Customers browse the goods on display in the UK’s first branch of Amazon Fresh, on March 04, 2021, in the Ealing area of London, England. Shoppers at the Amazon Fresh store, which stocks hundreds of Amazon-owned products and third-party items, check in with a smartphone app upon entry and are automatically billed when they exit, without needing to scan individual items. The location is Amazon’s first “just walk out” shop outside the United States. (Photo by Leon Neal/Getty Images)
