The suspect in the assault on author Salman Rushdie this past Friday has been identified as a resident of New Jersey. The suspect is 24-year-old Hadi Matar from Fairview, Bergen County. He’s charged with attacking Rushdie as the noted author was about to give an address at the Chautauqua Institution in western New York state. Rushdie suffered stab wounds to his neck and abdomen but is expected to recover after a lengthy rehab. Rushdie has been under an edict of death by the Ayatollah Khomeini since his book — The Satanic Verses — was published in the late 1980s. That edict was repealed some time ago, Iran said just a few hours ago they weren’t involved in the attack.
