There's another place to buy legal recreational pot on the Jersey Shore.
When New Jerseyans voted overwhelmingly to legalize the use of recreational marijuana for those over the age of 21 in the state no one thought it would take this long to get the program up and running.
But, it has.
This week, however, the movement got another place to buy recreational weed in Monmouth County. The city of Neptune gave the "green light" (ahem, pun intended) to the Zen Leaf dispensary to sell pot to recreational users. Previously, the joint (umm, hello?!) sold only to those who were approved for medicinal use of the stuff.
This brings the locations in Monmouth County that recreational marijuana can be purchased to a whopping: TWO. Yep, it doubles the number of legal pot shops. But still, only two. Why so slow in Jersey? Well the Cannabis Commission took a long time to (they say) make sure there was enough pot supply from growers to handle the needs of the medical users. They didn't want the recreational users to "buy out" the supply.
As I found out a few weeks ago, the process to get legal recreational THC products is been a bit cumbersome. Order beforehand but only if you can get a pick up appointment. Only then will you be given the opportunity to wait in line for about an hour to get your stuff.
It remains to be seen how Zen Leaf will handle their ordering and pick up process for recreational users. Their website currently says they're not selling to recreational users yet. If you try it out and have a comment, please shoot me a message.
Zen Leaf is a national marijuana dispensary company with locations in many of the states that have legalized marijuana use either medically or recreationally. At this time, they don't have plans to open more locations on the Jersey Shore.
