Weekdays 3pm - 7pm

Last week I asked my soon to be 21 year old daughter where she wanted to go for her annual birthday lunch, especially since this year she could order a beer or wine or seltzer or whatever. Without hesitation she mentioned the Pig and Parrot waterfront bar and grill in Brielle, the site of the old Sandbar. A friend of hers went there and raved about the food and vibe.So last week on her birthday the family ventured out for a sunny and hot lunchtime trip to the P & P. We got there early so it was a small lunchtime crowd to start. the views were beautiful, as I remembered them from the old Sandbar days, where the Rat used to do quite a few live broadcasts from in the 90’s and early 2000’s, along with the old next door neighbor, Union Landing, now Waypoint 622.  The salty air mood and island motif really solidified the Key West kina feel to this place. We sat downstairs and started with some apps. I got the Mango Jalapeno wings, my son grabbed is go to – the fried calamari. the wife held off on apps but picked at my carrots and celery in the wing basket. Birthday girl went full on Florida Keys and got the raw bar oysters. everything was fresh and delish, as were our main courses, of which I got the grilled grouper. As for drinks, the beers were cold and the temps were hot and it made for a nice island getaway on a Thursday at the Jersey Shore. I would venture back here again for lunch or dinner. I even would take a ride on their floating tiki bar I saw docked with all the boats in the Brielle Marina. that has gotta be some ride! So check out the Pig and Parrot in Brielle next time you want a little Key West vibe right in your own backyard.
