This Is Jersey: “I Love It!”
Carl Craft here… I was out on a ride on Sunday to the middle of Monmouth County and I just had to share my view with you.
Scenes from a Sunday morning bike ride. This Is Jersey: I Love It!
It was a beautiful Sunday morning. Sunshine peeking through those big, puffy clouds. The rain Saturday night had left the tree leaves gleaming in the sunlight. I woke, as I usually do, early – the effect of being a morning show guy for the last 30 years.
I geared up and headed out from my place in Howell for a road ride. Here’s a fun fact you might not know about me: I love biking. In the fall and winter months, it’s mountain biking in Allaire State Park (and surrounding areas) and in the spring and summer I love finding the roads of central Monmouth County.
So many people don’t get to see this part of New Jersey. The farmland part. People from around the globe fly into Newark, see the refineries and think, “What a dump!” Not me – and likely not you, either.
Something clicked on Sunday’s road ride. The sun was beautiful, the farms were thriving, the wildlife nearly everywhere. I saw deer, turtles, snakes, and birds of all kinds. The traffic on these roads of central Monmouth County were nearly empty as I clocked my miles.
From my start in Howell, I made my way past the Manasquan Reservoir out Casino to Freehold, into Manalapan and out towards my goal, Back Bone Hill Road.
I think I ended up in Millstone before turning back to the east to get back to the home front before I ran out of gas in my legs. There’s something really awesome about falling in love again with the area that you live in.
This is Jersey! This is The Jersey Shore! I love it. I’d love the hear about a part of our area that YOU love!
